Chadwick and the Funeral Reform in the Mid-19th Century of England

In the mid-19th century,with England significantly expanding of population and accelerating the process of urbanization,traditional funeral service showed a number of drawbacks.Chadwick,the famous health reformer at that time thought that the funeral service system must be reformed comprehensively so as to eliminate the defects of the traditional funeral service system after examining these problems.Even though his reform plan didn’t meet expectation as a result of strong opposition from the vested interests groups,the basic idea of his reform represented the trend of modern funeral industry,and laid the foundation for the modern funeral services system of the United States and western countries.
