直皖战争期间的皖系骨干吴光新

1920年7月,直皖战争在直隶境内进行.皖系骨干吴光新,虽未直接参与战争,但在段祺瑞的授意和支持下,为击败直系,上窜下跳,作了充分表演.其一,是年2、3月间,段祺瑞图谋赶走豫督赵倜,让吴光新取而代之,以便拦截北归直军于途中.但这一图谋未能得逞.其二,是年5月,驻防湘南的直军吴佩孚部,为搞垮皖系张敬尧在湖南的统治,在与南方结盟后,撤防北归.直军一撤,湘军立即接收直军原有防地.张的统治岌岌可危,遂请求时驻岳州等地的吴光新部来援.但吴为保存实力,坐视张之垮台而不加援手.其三,直皖战争爆发后,直系王占元在武昌设计将吴光新扣押,并将其分驻各地的部队一一缴械,这对皖系在战争中的惨败,无疑是个不可忽视的原因.战争结束,吴被免职查办,并交付军法审判,可谓身败名裂.

Cognition of Wu Guang-xin,cadre man of Wan faction during Zhi-Wan war

On July,1920,Zhi-Wan war was being held in Zhi Li area.Wu Guangxin,cadre man of Wan faction,although not involved in it,under the support and incitement of Duan Qirui,did a lot for defeating Zhi faction.First,on Feb.and Mar. that year,in order to hold up Zhi faction army,Duan Qirui contrived to substitute Wu Guangxin for Zhao Ti,Captain of Yu faction.But it failed.Second,on May that year,Wu Peifu,Zhi faction in Hunan,fought against Zhang Jingyao,Wan faction in Hunan.After aligned with the South,Wu Peifu retreated to the North.Xiang army took over Zhi faction army territory immediately.Zhang Jingyao asked Wu Guangxin,settled in Yuezhou,to support him.But Wu did nothing in order to save his own strength.Third,When Zhi-Wan war began,Wang Zhanyuan,Zhi faction,managed to detain Wu Guangxin in Wuchang and unarmed his troops.This is the key reason for the defeat of Wan faction.After the war,Wu Guangxin was dismissed and judged in court-martial.He lose all reputation in the end.
