| Abstract: | In the first part of this article the author analyses veris umbris (894) as part of Vergil's re-interpretation of the Homeric Gates of Dreams ( Od. 19.562-567). He believes that the text can be restored to its original function and meaning by bracketing 896 ( sed falsa ad caelum mittunt insomnia Manes ). In the second part he advocates a transposition of 893-895 (minus 896) to follow 897-898. |
