A Analysis of the Resistance to Foreign Aggression of Xiang Gentelemen and the Modernization of Hunan's Economy

Under the stimulus of the inner and outer conditions , in the face of the western new things and the infiltrations of the imperialist's force, the Xiang genteiemen of late Qing dynasty, experenced the varied process from rejecting blindness to setting up industry and commerce to resist the foreign aggression . In the course of setting up industry and commerce, some genteiemen's attitudes were mixed. But overall, their actions and attitudes had promoted the modernization of Hunan's economy.
