四世班禅生平及与四世达赖、五世达赖之关系

The Life Story of Panchen Lama IV and His Relationship with Dalai Lama IV and Dalai Lama V

Panchen Lama IV who is well-versed in Buddhist and traditional culture made Tashilunpo the main monastery under the Panchen living Buddha system when serving as abbot of Tashilhunpo Monastery.He instructed Dalai Lama IV,served as the chief of grand Lhasa Dharma assembly,organized the restoration of the Jokhang and the golden roof of the Soul-Tower Temple in Gadan Monastery,and became the leader of the Gelug School.He also assisted as his guru Dalai Lama V to handle the political and religious affairs first advocating contact with the Manchu Qing administration beyond Shanhaiguan Pass and participated in the religious reform of Jonang School.That the Fourth Panchen Lama’s painstaking efforts to the development of the Gelug School built up the prominent status of the Panchen living Buddha system in the Gelug Sect.
