As a famous scholar in modern times,Yan Fu was proficient at the civilization of the Orient and the Occident.He had made great innovation and contribution to historical theory and method.Yan Fu not only broke through the confines of traditional history but also brought forward the method of historical law from international angle of view.He debated the problem that the history development was affected by the elements of internal and external,and the problem that if the historical stage would be overstepped or not.Yan Fu had advanced new methods of studying history,which was inductive method on history,comparying the history of the Orient and the Occient and the theory of evolution on history.
