The landscapes in the settlement of overseas Chinese in Guangdong province have been progressively formed since the Chinese began to interact with the westerners in the middle of 19 th century. The diligence of the overseas Chinese not only boomed the regional economy, but also changed the local people's ideology. These changes can be found even in the refurbished architectural formation. Architectures with particular styles such as the pillbox building, the commercial streets, public buildings and private gardens, emerged in some overseas hometowns in five counties such as Jiang Men, Xinhui, etc. in Guangdong province. With the introduction of western architectural elements and techniques, a series of "extraordinary" architectural landscapes were created on the basis of Chinese traditional architecture and enriching the horizon of the settlement. The formation of the landscapes in the settlement of overseas Chinese witnessed a special history of a given era, and thus became an important historical cultural heritage that should be actively protected.
