Abstract: | The overreflection and overtransmission of a gravity wave incident upon a shear layer in an inviscid, rotating fluid is investigated. It is found that overreflection of the wave occurs even for values of the Richardson number higher than 0.25. This result was obtained in the Boussinesq as well as in the hydrostatic approximation. However, the resonant overreflection, appearing in the Boussinesq approximation, does not show up in the hydrostatic case. The reasons for this difference are explained. |
