Chinese Week-end Schools in Switzerland as A Mean to Ensure A Cosmopolite Social Mobility Strategy

Based on the observations made in the Chinese schools of Switzerland and the Chinese language summer camps,as well as the interviews conducted with Swiss Chinese and teachers from Taiwan,the author depicts the situation of Chinese immigration into Switzerland, the non homogeneous networks and sociability. A brief introduction to the Chinese language education organizations in Switzerland is provided in addition to the analysis on the similarity and difference between Taiwan and mainland China in supporting Chinese education overseas. Moreover,the author examines the changes of identity in different contexts, aiming at highlighting the different understandings and explanations of interviewees on the two concepts of ＂culture＂and ＂language＂. The author argues that this valorization of an alleged unified＂Chinese＂identity serves a cosmopolite social mobility strategy,which helps their insertion either in Switzerland or in China.
