Abstract:Eighty-two tombs were excavated in the central-west of the Xisima cemetery. Judging from the unearthed artifacts, burial style, and burial customs, these tombs are dated to the Early Western Zhou period, probably between the Reign of King Wu and the Reign of King Cheng. The tomb occupants are, therefore, believed to be leftover subjects of the Yin Dynasty. Furthermore, tombs that are west-oriented and south-oriented supposedly belonged to two different clans, respectively, and they differ greatly in burial style and wealth. It is proposed that the Xisima cemetery was formed by burials of leftover subjects of the Yin Dynasty, which very likely resulted from the relocation of leftover subjects of the Yin Dynasty during the Reign of King Wu.
Keywords:the Xisima cemetery  the Early Western Zhou  leftover subjects of the Yin Dynasty  the conquest of Shang by King Wu
