In 2010 through 2011, the Sino-Japanese Joint Archaeological Team organized by the Instituteof Archaeology, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and Nara National Research Institute for Cultural Properties,Japanese National Commission for Protection of Cultural Properties recovered the foundation of the southwestern cornerstructure (numbered Architectural Foundation V) of the Northern Wei Dynasty Palace City to the west of ChangheGate. This excavation not only found the exact location of the southwestern corner of the Northern Wei Dynasty PalaceCity and the orientations, scales and structures of the palace wall and drainage system but also made us more clearlyunderstand the first building date and the continuation of use of this section of the palace wall. This discovery issignificantly meaningful for the researches on the layout of the Northern Wei Luoyang City and the evolution of theplanning of the capital cities in ancient China.
