Campaign spending in the new south Wales legislative assembly elections of 1984

Abstract:The relationship between campaign spending at the constituency level and the level of voting support for the two main party political groupings, Labor and the coalition, is examined by means of multiple regression analysis. Results confirm that the pattern of spending influences the pattern of voting, rather than simply reflecting it, and emphasise that how money is spent, in terms of the forms of advertising used, is significant in determining voter response.
