Rulers of Shang Dynasty chose to build Huanbei here mostly because of historical background and cultural context, i.e. people who once lived in this exact place were ancestors of the royals of Shang Dynasty. Before the construction of Huanbei started, rulers of Shang Dynasty were losing their authority and control in the capital city in modern-day Zhengzhou. This fact can be considered as the macro-political background of relocating to a new capital.
