| Abstract: | The UNESCO World Heritage Program places a premium on the international experts in the national World Heritage nomination process but ignores the voices of local residents and tourists.Taking West Lake Cultural Landscape of Hangzhou as an example,this article argues that due to the differences between Chinese and Western cultures,international experts cannot fully understand the value stated by Chinese experts during the application process.The local residents and tourists of West Lake not only understands the traditional Chinese cultural values embodied in the lake,but also connects them with personal feelings,experiences and memories,building up the"popular social values"of the West Lake. |
