| Abstract: | An analysis of 87 doctoral dissertations shows diversity of subject matter, but uneven distribution among geographic disciplines. Among gaps noted by the author are absence of dissertations on the hi story of geography, either Soviet or foreign, shortage of integrated physical-economic regional studies and absence of studies devoted to new mathematical methods in geography. Most doctoral candidates are between 45 and 55 years old and are ready to retire by the time they complete their dissertations. |
