Abstract: | Yakutia is the Soviet Union's leading fur-supplying area, with five species—squirrel, white fox, ermine, muskrat, and, in some years, hare—accounting for 90 per cent of all wild fur deliveries. Changes in the level of fur deliveries by species are reviewed, with the greatest fluctuations noted in the supply of hare skins. In game hunting, elk, wild reindeer, and mountain sheep are found to constitute an important part of the region's meat supply. |
