Abstract: | The author reviews experiments on the dusting of glaciers to promote melting and calls for an integrated program of research and experimentation to assure practical application of this method of increasing stream flow for irrigation of arid lands. The program has been opposed by some glaciologists on the ground that glacier meltwater makes up a negligible percentage of stream flow and that artificial intensification of melting may disturb the natural evolution of glaciers and reduce normal stream flow. |
