Abstract: | Impacts of Stalinist repression on geographic thought and practice in the USSR are described. These include the persecution and untimely deaths of a number of geographers, the abandonment of certain lines of research, the shift in emphasis from political and economic to physical geography, and the simplification, elimination, or falsification of theoretical paradigms.
