试论左郡左县制

左郡左县之名首见于刘宋,萧齐有较大发展,萧梁时达到极盛,左郡之上产生左州。左郡左县制在边郡制基础上发展而来,但又有其特点,其设立以蛮酋的归附为前提,均有实地,且权力世袭。左郡左县与朝廷关系复杂,但左郡左县制的实行,说明少数民族都已受到政府不同程度的控制,有利于向编户转化。

On the System of Zuo Shire and Zuo County

The names of Zuo Shire and Zuo county first appeared in Liu's Song Dynasty and got greater development in Xiao's Qi Dynasty. And the system reached their acme. This system developed from Bian Shire system, but had their own characteristics. Frontier tribe chief's submission was the precondition to set up this system. The shire and county all had their own tract and were hereditary. Zuo shire and Zuo county had a complicated relationship with the court, but the implementation of this system showed that the ethnic groups in frontier had been controlled to some degree and was easy to be registered by the government.
