War and peace: historiography and seventh-century embassies
Authors:Paul S Barnwell
Institution:Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England, York
Abstract:The evidence for, and circumstances of, seventh-century embassies are examined, and it is suggested that the lack of documented diplomacy is partly accounted for by what may have been relatively peaceful conditions in the west, and partly by the nature of the sources for the period.
