Turbulent flows,fires, and explosions

Abstract

This paper describes how our understanding of turbulence has grown out of engineering practice and how, in turn, it has modified that practice. This is illustrated by discussions of a number of important combustion phenomena embracing steam and gasoline engines, gas turbines, furnaces, jet fires, fire breathing, and atmospheric explosions.
