Abstract:In the context of preserving natural stone, it is often necessary to consolidate the structure by applying a stone strengthener. Materials based on silicic acid esters have been used for decades throughout the world. In this paper, the chemical mechanism, application limits of stone strengthener based on classic silicic acid ester has been discussed. New developments, so called elastified silicic acid ester has been introduced, developed as a product system to extend what is feasible. The elastified silicic acid ester system is opening new possibility to solve most of damages occurred in stone monuments.
