作者亲历日本大地震，从日本人在灾难中冷静、克制、守序等表现，探讨日本人由于自然环境和历史形成的诸多特点。如喜欢樱花刹那之美的无常思想、阴翳之美与老庄思想、对待自然的态度、武士道、日本的古典文化与中国的关系等等，从许多细微之处分析日本文化的方方面面。

Earthquake and the Japanese Culture

The author experienced the earthquake in Japan.In this study,the Japanese national characters in relation to natural and historical environments are explored considering the calmness,restraint,and lawfulness of the Japanese people facing the catastrophe.Japanese culture is thoroughly examined in a variety of aspects such as the impermanence idea reflected in their liking of the instantaneous beauty of cherry flower,the passion for luxuriant beauty and the ideas of Laotse and Zhuan-Tzu,their attitude toward nature and Bushido,and the relationship between Classic Japanese culture and China.
