Abstract: | This paper assesses the condition and arrangements of Anglican churches in Leicestershire and Rutland before the great tide of Victorian restoration. This did not begin in earnest in this area until the 1850s but there is evidence to show that before that time the buildings were generally fairly well maintained. The frequency and characteristics of pre-Victorian features are discussed. |
