An Investigation on the Issue of the Location of Dong Zhongshu's Tomb

The location of the tomb of Dong Zhongshu, a great philosopher in the Western Han Dynasty, has been the subject of much controversy in the historiographic world. The author in this paper questioned the belief for the past 500 years that Dong’s tomb is within the city of Chang’an. The author also listed two other arguments brought out in the 1990s. One holds that Dong was buried together with Liu Che, the emperor of his time, in Xingping County; the other one argues that Dong’s tomb is within the campus of Xi’an Jiaotong University. On the basis of review of many records and documents, and on the spot investigation, the author concludes that Dong was buried in Xingping County. The paper has provided detailed materials and evidence for further research on this issue.
