Abstract: | The Asia-Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art is one of Australia's leading contemporary exhibitions and a major event on the biennale world calendar. Begun in 1993, the eighth triennial opened in November 2015 and is the only biennale to focus solely on the Asia-Pacific region, a vast area, which, in this event, can range from the eastern edge of the Pacific to Turkey. This critical review evaluates the significance of the triennial for Queensland, outlines some of its overall trends and evaluates how it responds to issues of identity and difference, the global and the local. |
