Abstract: | Elucidating the specific use and purpose of archaeological specimens such as stone axes and grinding stones can improve the understanding of an area's ecosystem and civilization. Chemical analysis of residues preserved on these tools may provide key information in identifying how the tool was implemented. The arid US Great Basin provides an ideal environment for the preservation of fatty acid residues. |
