Protecting the Diaoyu Island Movement and the Peaceful Unification of China

The Movement of Protecting the Diaoyu Island was launched in the early 1970s by overseas Chinese students i.n America to protest the handover of the Island to Japan by the American government. This article discusses the development of the movement and examines how a territory protection movement could gradually be developed to the Movement of China＇s Unification. The author emphasizes that the Movement of Protecting the Diaoyu Island facilitated a strong national consciousness and patriotism among ethnic Chinese, playing a key role in protecting China＇s sovereign right over territory while initiating the movement of China＇s peaceful unification, which in turn had a positive and significant impact on the ongoing effort of China＇s peaceful unification.
