缴射新证

缴射是中国古代的一种狩猎方式。缴为丝绳,矰为箭矢,用系着丝绳的箭去射获猎物的狩猎方式称缴射,通常认为兴盛于春秋战国时期。在春秋战国的工艺美术品中,表现缴射的纹饰为该时代常见的装饰纹样之一。缴射是以箭上的丝线缠绕猎物为主,而不是射伤或射死,即可以"生擒活捉"。诸多墓葬出土的箭镞为圆头、平头矢,无杀伤功能,且与弓矢同出,即为缴射所用,并非志矢、投壶矢。

New Evidence on Jiaoshe Projectile Point

Jiaoshe is a type of hunting method in ancient China.It used a string(jiao) attached to a projectile point(zeng) to shoot an animal.This hunting method is believed to have developed during the Eastern Zhou period(770-221 B.C.).Hunting scenes using string-attached projectile points are often depicted on art and craft objects.Hunters were able to catch live animals in this way,since the intention was not killing,but using the string to grab hold of the animal.Archaeologists have found a type of flat or round-headed dart together with bows in many tombs of this period,and such darts by themselves carried no capacity for killing.It was used together with a string in hunting activities.They were neither projectiles for practice (zhishi 志矢) nor for a dart game(touhu 投壶).
