The Establishment of the Yalta System and the Setting Up of the Soviet Sphere of Infuence

Initial success was gained by the Soviet Union in seeking territorial expansion and building up its sphere of influence to its northwest through collaboration as well as contest with Hitler Germany before the Nazi Soviet War broke out. Then, capitalizing on its victories on the battlefield, it made its allies in the West to agree gradually to the majority of its demands on territories and frontiers, and security needs and sphere of influence during WWII. Ultimately, the Soviet Union and the Western states established, through mutual compromise and understanding, the Yalta System and set up their respective spheres of influence.
