The Significance of Sino-Japanese War of 1894-1895 on Japanese Ideology History in Modern Times

The nature of Sino- Japanese War of 1894- 1895 is generally regarded as a war between enlightenment and conservation, or between civilization and barbarism in the ideological public opinion in Japan. Japan prettified it as a sacred and righteous war, but not the war of aggression which made Japan get the pass to imperialism camp. It has the deep significance in Japanese ideology history in modem times. After the war, some of the thinkers like Uchimura Kanzou tended to the theory of peace, but a great many of them like Tokutomi Sohou went to imperialism.
