Abstract: | Summary. The purpose of this paper is to examine the common belief that Brittany, as an outlying region of the Empire, was only superficially Romanized. Though the above opinion is not entirely disproved by the body of evidence collected from past and recent excavations, the picture should clearly not be oversimplified. Roman Brittany, though it certainly lagged behind in terms of cultural and linguistic unification, was certainly fully integrated into the political and economic structure of Gaul and the Empire as a whole. |
