Abstract: | Vertical sounding data of the polar ionosphere are used to study slant E condition (SEC) related to the development of instabilities in the ionospheric plasma. The measurements from three Arctic and three Antarctic stations located correspondingly in the polar cap, daytime cusp and auroral zone are analyzed. It is shown that the SEC daily variations in these three regions are different. Distinctions between SEC features in the opposite hemispheres are affected by the azimuthal and vertical interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) components. |
