The friendship between Liu Shaoqi and Chen Yun could be traced back to the years of Ruijin and Yan'an, but it was in the days of economic readjustment following the "Great Leap Forward" that their friendship left the most marked historical imprint. With his decision making and(?)is organizing and leading ability in the process of economic readjustment Chen Yun enjoyed Liu Shaoqi's trust and support and his guiding principles in respect of economic work also won approval from, and were highly appreciated by, Liu Shaoqi. In particular, Liu Shaoqi first proposed to study Chen Yun's works, which reflected his historical insight.
