Chen Geng: Founder of Military Engineering Education in the New China

Chen Geng was the founder of the New China's first academy of military engineering, and he made a pioneering contribution to military engineering education in contemporary China. The historical background to Chen Geng's thinking about military technology education lay in the needs of China's national defense development and the Korean War. His thinking about and practice of military engineering education was chiefly expressed in four areas. 1. Military engineering education is a cornerstone of national defense modernization. 2. Its focus must be on using comprehensive quality control to train military engineering personnel with overall skills. 3. "The root of virtue lies in education, and the root of education lies in the teachers. " 4. Administration and management must serve pedagogy. Chen Geng's thinking and practice achieved brilliant accomplishments which had far-reaching influence on the fine traditions of the Harbin College of Military Engineering .
