A seismic design procedure that does not take into account the maximum and cumulative plastic deformation demands that a structure will likely undergo during severe ground motion could lead to unreliable performance. Damage models that quantify the severity of repeated plastic cycling through plastic energy are simple tools that can be used for practical seismic design. The concept of constant cumulative ductility strength spectra, developed from one such model, is a useful tool for performance-based seismic design. Particularly, constant cumulative ductility strength spectra can be used to identify cases in which low-cycle fatigue may become a design issue, and provides quantitative means to estimate the design lateral strength that should be provided to a structure to adequately control its cumulative plastic deformation demands during seismic response. Design expressions can be offered to estimate the strength reduction factors associated to the practical use of constant cumulative ductility strength spectra.  相似文献

Simplified expressions to estimate the behavior factor of plane steel moment resisting frames are proposed, based on statistical analysis of the results of thousands of nonlinear dynamic analyses. The influence on this factor of specific structural parameters, such as the number of stories, the number of bays, and the capacity design factor of a steel frame, is studied in detail. The proposed factor describes the seismic strength requirements in order to restrict maximum storey ductility to a predefined value. Interrelation studies between maximum storey ductility and the Park-Ang damage index are also provided for the damage-based interpretation of the performance levels under consideration. Realistic design examples serve to demonstrate the ability of the proposed factor to convert conventional force-based design to a direct performance-based seismic design procedure.  相似文献

This article presents an experimental investigation of the seismic performance of gravity load-designed RC infilled frames and confined bearing walls of limestone masonry backed with plain concrete. Five infilled frames and two bearing walls were constructed at one-third scale and tested using reversed cyclic lateral loading and constant axial loads. Effects of openings, axial loading, and infill interface conditions were examined using quasi-static experimentation. The two structural systems exhibited similar lateral resistance and energy dissipation capacities with higher global displacement ductility for the infilled frames. Hysteretic behavior of the infilled frame models exhibited pinching of the hysteretic loops accompanied by extensive degradation of stiffness whereas loops of the bearing walls were free of pinching. Test results confirmed the beneficial effect of axial loading on lateral resistance, energy dissipation, and ductility of the bearing walls. Higher axial loading resulted in a substantial decrease in ductility with no significant effect on lateral resistance of the infilled frames. Openings within the infill panel reduced significantly the lateral resistance of infilled frames. Using dowels at the infill panel interfaces with the base block and bounding columns enhanced the maximum load-carrying capacity of infilled frames without impairing their ductility.  相似文献

In this article, a simple and effective wavelet-based procedure is implemented for describing principle features of a special class of motions, pulse-like ground motions, on inelastic displacement ratio spectra (IDRS). The computed spectra supply a simple estimation of maximum inelastic displacement demand from the corresponding elastic one. The results of analysis in this work provide a suitable platform for quantification of pulse effects into IDRS and highlight the need to better understanding of this effect on demand estimation. It is concluded that the pulse has a significant influence on IDRS of pulse-like ground motions for systems with high ductility level.  相似文献

T-shaped slender reinforced concrete (RC) structural walls are commonly used in medium-rise and high-rise buildings as part of lateral force resisting system. Compared to its popularity, experimental results on seismic performance of these walls are relatively sparse, especially for data regarding these walls in the non-principal bending directions. This article aims at providing additional experimental evidence on seismic performance of T-shaped RC structural walls. Experimental results of six T-shaped RC walls were presented. These walls resemble the structural walls found in existing buildings in Singapore and possess slightly inferior details compared to the requirements of modern design codes. The test variables were the loading direction and the axial load ratio. The experimental results were discussed in terms of the failure mechanisms, cracking patterns, hysteretic responses, curvature distributions, displacement components, and strain profiles. In addition, the experimental results were compared with methods commonly adopted in current design practice including the nonlinear section analyses, shear strength models and effective width of the tension flange. The experimental data illustrate that the shear lag effect not only was not accurately accounted for by the effective width method but also significantly affected the strength and stiffness of the tested specimens.  相似文献

This study investigates probabilistic characteristics of the peak ductility demand of inelastic single-degree-of-freedom systems. The hysteretic behavior of structural systems is represented by the Bouc-Wen model, which takes various hysteretic curves with degradation and pinching behavior into account, and a prediction equation of the peak ductility demand is developed. The application of the developed equation in reliability analysis of structures subject to earthquake loading is illustrated. The results indicate that the effects due to degradation and pinching behavior on the peak ductility demand as well as the reliability of structures can be significant, especially for stiff structures.  相似文献

This article presents a study of fully fixed (welded) perforated beam-to-column connections, used as strengthening techniques to seismic-resistant design. The effect of using non-standard novel web opening configurations of variable depths and positions is investigated. The improvements on the structural behavior foreshadow the enhancements gained using these perforated members. It is concluded that using large isolated perforations is an effective way of improving the behavior of connections enhancing their ductility, rotational capacity and their energy dissipation capacity. Moreover, the connections with novel openings outperform the conventional ones; therefore, they can be suitably used in the aseismic design of steel frames.  相似文献

Ground acceleration records obtained from instruments in the field are often filtered to reduce noise in both low and high frequency bands before being used for structural response analyses. The structural analysis using a filtered acceleration record may elongate the fundamental period of a structure which will potentially lead to an underestimation of the nonlinear response.

The nonlinear response of single-degree-of-freedom systems to low-cut filtered ground acceleration records is investigated. Based on the results of this study, a simple criterion for selecting ground acceleration records for seismic response analyses is proposed to avoid underestimating the nonlinear structural response.  相似文献

New designed or retrofitted structures with the use of isolation system may exhibit nonlinear deformations during strong ground motions. Inelastic displacement ratio of base-isolated structures is studied in this paper by employing two degree of freedom model taking into account inelastic behavior of isolators and superstructure. Parametric study is conducted to evaluate influence of isolator and superstructure properties on inelastic displacement ratio according to two sets of near-fault and far-fault ground motions. Accuracy of proposed equations in the literature to evaluate inelastic displacement ratio are studied, as well. Furthermore, cyclic degradation effects are investigated by considering stiffness and strength degradation and pinching in hysteresis model of superstructure. Eventually, inelastic responses of isolated structures with two types of isolators (lead rubber bearing and friction pendulum bearing) are compared.  相似文献

The main purpose of this article is to develop an alternative adaptive pushover method in which multiple inelastic response spectra proportional to the instantaneous ductility ratio of the structure are employed to reflect the actual energy dissipation characteristic of the structure at a given deformation level. Based on the proposed methodology, two load patterns are independently applied to the structure and the envelope of the demand values is computed. The obtained results demonstrate that the proposed method provides improved predictions of the peak interstory and total drift profiles of the structure.  相似文献
