This article presents the experimental results of a study on reinforced-concrete frames infilled with masonry with openings. The frames were designed according to current European codes. They were built in a scale 1:2.5 and infilled with masonry walls. Mid-size window and door openings were located centrically and eccentrically and were executed with and without tie-columns around them. Presence of masonry infill, although not accounted for in design, improved the system behavior (increase in stiffness, strength and energy dissipation capacity) at drift levels of up to 1%. During the test, openings did not influence the initial stiffness and strength at low drift levels. Their presence became noticeable at higher drift levels, when they lowered the energy dissipation capacity of the system. The infill wall had a multiple failure mechanism that depended on the opening height and position. Tie-columns controlled the failure type, independent of the opening type, prevented out-of-plane failure of the infill, and increased the system's ductility. Negative effects of the infill on the frame were not observed. The infill's contribution could be deemed positive as it enhanced the overall Structural Performance Level. Analytical expressions commonly used for infilled frames underestimate the infill's contribution to strength and stiffness and overestimate the contribution of the bare frame.  相似文献

The introduction of Western science in order to change physical and operational aspects of Shanghai’s Huangpu River had been debated by Qing and Western officials since almost the beginning of its history as a Treaty Port. At stake in those debates was the perception of the river’s proper use: as a natural barrier for military defense, or as a conduit for global trade. After the Western powers unified to militarily suppress the Boxer Uprising in 1900, they attained their long-awaited goal of the right to transform the river for global trade as part of Article 11 of the Boxer Protocol: the Junpuju (or Huangpu Conservancy Board) was created and authorized by the central government to make the Huangpu River navigable for shipping vessels. Although the Junpuju continued the ethos of earlier extra-bureaucratic organizations established during the Self-Strengthening Movement, after 1901 the organization bore the authority of the central government. During the era of the New Policies, Qing officials were intent on revising the original terms of river conservancy so that they would be more favorable to Chinese sovereignty. At the same time, imperialist rivalries among the Western powers ruptured the apparent unity of the earlier alliance during the suppression of the Boxer Uprising. Before long, Western corruption in the Huangpu River dredging was brought to the attention of Qing officials, who deftly used it to recover Qing control over certain parts of the body of the river.  相似文献

This study employs a brittle fracture-mechanics-based approach to explore the relationship between lithic fracture velocity and precursory loading rate in fine-grained lithic armatures. The data demonstrate that only high-speed dart and arrow armatures are subject to dynamic loading events, whereas spear and javelin armatures are limited to rapid (and quasi-static) loading. The data presented were derived from controlled experiments employing spears, javelins, spearthrower darts, and arrows. Armatures associated with both bow and spearthrower technologies are reliably identified and distinguished from those of low-speed technologies such as spears and javelins. Javelin armatures may also sustain higher velocity fractures than spear armatures, thus permitting the further differentiation of these technologies. The methodology offers a quantitative, non-subjective means to identify the delivery technology associated with a lithic armature.  相似文献

Self-centering ability of unbonded post-tensioned precast concrete shear walls has been attributed to the presence of post-tensioning force. However, the experimental results presented in this paper indicate that the post-tensioning force may completely die out during cyclic loading while the walls are able to retain their superior self-centering characteristic. Moreover, the analytical study presented in this article indicates that with proper configuration of end-anchorages for post-tensioned tendons, self-centering of post-tensioned walls can be achieved even when the post-tensioning force vanishes. This study also investigates the effects of tendon layout, tendon end-anchorage configuration, and external vertical load on the self-centering ability of unbonded precast concrete shear walls subjected to earthquake loading.  相似文献

Connections of steel moment frames are vulnerable to brittle failure. Providing a perforation near the beam-ends is suggested as a potential method to improve seismic behavior of these structures. This article presents a numerical study on the energy dissipation of steel moment connections with perforated beam. Models with elongated circular openings of different dimensions and location are analyzed and compared based on the global and local damage indices, predicted failure time and dissipated energy. Results show that an RWS connection with a proper opening size can develop reasonable inelastic deformations and provide an acceptable seismic improvement to moment-resisting frames.  相似文献

自1992年联合国环境与发展大会缔结了为气候变化问题上的全球合作提供法律框架的《气候变化框架公约》以来,国际上已经历六次缔约方大会。虽然1997年其第三次缔约方会议签订了具有削减温室气体排放数量和时间限制具体目标的《京都议定书》,取得了该领域的一个关键性进展,但最近在荷兰海牙召开的旨在就《京都协定书》的目标与措施达成具体协议的第六次缔约方会议却以失败而告终。纵观国际社会在《气候变化框架公约》问题上的后续行动进展,可以充分看出当前的国际环境关系具有环境问题政治化、环境关系复杂化、环境合作艰难化以及环境斗争激烈化的特点。这使中国今后在环境与发展的问题上将面临更加严峻的挑战,为此必须尽早采取有效对策。  相似文献

This paper outlines the first methodology for recording dental enamel hypoplasia in the high‐crowned dentition of modern and archaeological caprine teeth. The method has been developed and trialed on five caprine populations from Orkney (UK); two modern populations (Shetland and North Ronaldsay breeds) and three Neolithic assemblages from the archaeological sites of Knap of Howar, Skara Brae and Holm of Papa Westray. Problems associated with differential tooth wear, as well as the presence of coronal cementum, are discussed, and recommendations are given on the identification and recording of hypoplastic dental defects in caprines. Considerable progress has been made on the research of non-rectangular reinforced concrete (RC) squat walls over the past decades. However, the experimental data of L-shaped RC squat walls remain limited, especially for their seismic behaviors under non-principal bending actions. This paper presents an experimental and numerical investigation on L-shaped RC squat structural walls with an emphasis on how varying the directions of lateral cyclic loading influences the seismic responses of these walls. Four L-shaped specimens are tested under lateral cyclic displacements and low levels of axial compression The variables are axial loads and lateral loading directions. The performance of specimens is discussed in terms of cracking patterns, failure mechanisms, hysteretic responses, deformation components and strain profiles. Furthermore, three-dimensional finite element models are developed to supplement the experimental results. The direction of lateral loading is found to have a significant effect on the peak shear strength of L-shaped RC squat walls.  相似文献

In this article a study is presented of the inelastic seismic performance of two 5-story reinforced concrete wall specimens, which were tested in the context of the CAMUS 2000 program. The structure has been sized and detailed following the French PS92 code. To investigate the simplifying assumptions made in design, a 3-D refined nonlinear analysis was conducted. Particular aspects of the behavior of the two tested specimens are presented and then test results are compared with numerical predictions. The experimental-analytical comparisons not only demonstrate the accuracy of the time-history analysis model, but also allow obtaining more detailed information about the behavior of the specimen when it is subjected to seismic excitation. The significant effect of degradation of the stiffness and strength of the wall suggests that it is always important that design procedures are derived from numerical modeling and experimental observations.  相似文献

The column members of steel moment frames undergo high axial forces as well as inelastic rotations during a severe seismic event. The boundaries of these simultaneous structural demands on the columns of special moment frames have been investigated in this research. Based on the results of this investigation, dual cyclic loading protocols have been developed that represent both axial force and lateral deformation demands. Contrary to other loading scenarios that have been implemented in previous studies on steel columns, the loading protocols developed in this study include simultaneous axial and lateral loading cycles with varying amplitudes. The level of axial forces and story drifts tolerated by the columns of some typical Special Moment Frames (SMFs) has been investigated through performing nonlinear dynamic analyses. These frames have been selected with several configurations and different number of stories. The results of the nonlinear dynamic analyses have been processed to assess cumulative and instantaneous seismic demands on the columns of the chosen typical frames. Subsequently, dual cyclic loading protocols have been developed such that exerting these loading protocols on individual steel columns can result in structural effects close to the general seismic demands assessed in this study. Two separate dual loading protocols have been introduced for Design Earthquake (DE) and Maximum Considered Earthquake (MCE) seismic intensity levels.  相似文献
