AbstractAnthropogenic geographic studies in tourism should consider the liminality of the experience. Tourism by definition means a temporal and/or spatial movement takes place. How the tourist interacts and behaves during this transitory experience is a logical progression into human leisure behaviour. Several recent international gatherings of geographers provide the foundation to explore liminality in tourism and we build on those papers in this special issue. The papers are varied in geographies, yet have a central theoretical basis in all things liminal. Invited papers in this special issue are founded on the research presented at two international geography conferences in sessions devoted to tourism. The American Association of Geographers meeting in Boston, Massachusetts in 2017 and the Royal Geographic Society with the Institute of British Geographers in Cardiff, Wales in 2018 gathered geographers from around the world to study this theme. The following papers give the most comprehensive geographic review in tourism to date and we encourage additional dialogue. 相似文献

ABSTRACT This paper is a study of the figure of ‘ambition’ in Scottish cultural policy since about 2010. The argument of the paper is established through the development of the concept of ‘temporal sovereignty’. Through ‘ambition’ cultural policy attempts to subject culture and cultural agents to the formation of the Scottish government’s temporal regime, and in particular the relation between creative industries and the effects of economic temporality. The study examines the temporal properties of ‘partnerships’ as a key strategic mechanism in that project. The focus of the study is an analysis of authoritative Scottish cultural policy texts which show that the subject of culture becomes the organisation of temporal sovereignty. The paper explains the conditions for the emergence of the problem of ‘temporal sovereignty’ and discusses its consequences for structures of rule and logics of cultural policy formation. It concludes by indicating the location of culture in a politics of temporalities. 相似文献

A cholesteatoma is a collection of dead epithelial cells in the ear which becomes infected with low‐grade pathogenic microorganisms. The lesion tends to cause resorption of the surrounding bone, which potentially permits its recognition in skeletal remains. Cholesteatoma may occur in the middle or the outer ear. Using two examples of cholesteatoma in skeletal remains from British archaeological sites, the differential diagnosis of cholesteatoma from other aural diseases is demonstrated. Some of the differences in bony lesions caused by middle ear and external ear canal cholesteatoma which may enable the two to be distinguished in palaeopathological specimens are discussed. Attention is drawn towards the importance of making this distinction in ancient skeletal remains; middle ear and external ear canal cholesteatoma have a different array of causes and very different impacts upon health status.
