A visual ethnographic pilot study of school travel for families living with childhood disability

ABSTRACT

Children’s school transport has become a major research focus over the past 20 years, particularly within the fields of planning, transport geography, and children’s geographies. However, this work has rarely considered children living with disability. This article presents the pilot component of a visual ethnographic study about school transport within families living with childhood disability. It explains why we piloted the study, details the pilot process, and presents lessons learned from piloting the study with two families of children living with different mobility needs. The lessons largely concern the design of interview guides and the interviewing process, as well as the development of an adaptive photo kit to enable children’s independent participation. The article shows how piloting qualitative studies, particularly those involving disabled children, can be invaluable in terms of improving data collection technologies and logistics, as well as enabling inclusive participation.     

金石学在现代中国考古学中的表达

本文将考古学与金石学的关系分为三个时期,首先,从源头上探明金石学与考古学内在学理上的相似甚至一致之处;其次,阐明考古学进入中国的前后,金石学是怎样起到了铺垫作用,并且对考古学的走向产生了怎样的影响;第三,金石学,乃至其背后的史学、经学背景,仍然影响着现代中国考古学的许多方面,体现在报告编写的思路、论文题目的选定等……     

Urban experimentation and institutional arrangements

ABSTRACT

Currently little is known about how institutional arrangements co-evolve with urban experimentation. This paper mobilizes neo-institutional literature and recent urban experimentation literature as a framework to explore how and why institutional arrangements differ across urban contexts. Empirically the paper focusses on smart city initiatives in Amsterdam, Hamburg and Ningbo. These three cities are frontrunners in adopting a comprehensive smart city agenda, but they do so in different ways. The paper examines regulative, normative and cognitive elements of institutional arrangements, explores how they shape experimentation, and reflects on their place-based specificities. The comparative analysis suggests that the focus of, and approach to, experimentation can be understood as resting in a (possibly unique) combination of strategic agency and dynamics at multiple spatial scales.     

A systematic review of climate change education: giving children and young people a ‘voice’ and a ‘hand’ in redressing climate change

ABSTRACT

The reality of anthropogenic climate change has been established ‘beyond reasonable doubt’ by leading scientists worldwide. Applying a systematic literature review process, we analysed existing literature from 1993 to 2014 regarding climate change education for children and young people, with the aim of identifying key areas for further research. While a number of studies have indicated that young people’s understandings of climate change are generally limited, erroneous and highly influenced by mass media, other studies suggest that didactic approaches to climate change education have been largely ineffectual in affecting students’ attitudes and behaviour. The review identifies the need for participatory, interdisciplinary, creative, and affect-driven approaches to climate change education, which to date have been largely missing from the literature. In conclusion, we call for the development of new forms of climate change education that directly involve young people in responding to the scientific, social, ethical, and political complexities of climate change.     

面向美好生活的“诗意栖居”——旅游情境“家”的研究回顾与展望

面对新时代美好生活需要的现实背景和学术界“日常生活转向”的理论动态，本文回顾和梳理了旅游情境“家”的渊源流变、理论视角、研究内容，并进行评述与展望。结果表明：旅游情境“家”具有多元性和杂合性，包含物质和精神两层涵义；该研究领域呈现出多学科视角、多文化背景、多类型案例、多层次内容等特点，在概念、理论、内容、方法等方面有待提升；未来研究需进一步丰富“家”的旅游学内涵、探讨休闲旅游的生活意蕴、剖析“家”的精神文化内容、促进研究手段与方法多元化。
