ABSTRACT

The analysis of the shaking table test of a 3-wall stone masonry structure performed with a discrete element model is presented. The numerical model, created with the code 3DEC, employed a rigid block representation and a Mohr-Coulomb joint model. Joint stiffness calibration to match the experimental natural frequencies is discussed, as well as the boundary conditions to simulate the shake table. Comparisons are made with the measured displacements at key locations, and the modes of deformation and fracture of the walls. The DEM model was able to reproduce important features of the shaking table tests. The experimental deformation and near collapse patterns were clearly identifiable in the numerical simulations, which produced displacements within the observed orders of magnitude, for the various levels of excitation.  相似文献

Determining the diversity of salmon species represented in archaeological contexts is critical to understanding patterns of salmon harvesting and consumption, storage practices and seasonal patterns of resource exploitation by precontact peoples of the Northwest Coast. We present species determinations generated for salmon vertebrae from the Dionisio Point site (DgRv-003) in coastal southwestern British Columbia, a well-preserved village site that dates to between 1500 and 1300 cal BP. Molecular species identification was possible for 70 Pacific salmonid vertebral elements recovered from one excavated plankhouse at the site. Coupled with osteometric measures, we determine that residents of the plankhouse fished primarily for chum, sockeye and pink salmon, with a lesser emphasis on chinook, coho and steelhead. These results indicate a diverse fishery that likely occurred between July and December, suggesting a mid summer through winter season of occupation for the village.  相似文献

A procedure is presented to extend the static torsional provisions of the Eurocode 8 (EC8) to asymmetrical multi-storey buildings. It is shown that even if the conditions in Annex A of EC8 are satisfied, the static torsional provision will not be effective to compensate for the effect of torsion unless the building possesses a minimum level of torsional stiffness. By means of examples, it is shown that this minimum torsional stiffness condition can be specified in the Code using the mean stiffness radius of gyration of the building calculated based on the proposed procedure as an index.  相似文献

An analytical solution is presented for the response of a bilinear inelastic simple oscillator to a symmetric triangular ground acceleration pulse. This type of motion is typical of near-fault recordings generated by source-directivity effects that may generate severe damage. Explicit closed-form expressions are derived for: (i) the inelastic response of the oscillator during the rising and decaying phases of the excitation as well as the ensuing free oscillations; (ii) the time of structural yielding; (iii) the time of peak response; (iv) the associated ductility demand. It is shown that when the duration of the pulse is long relative to the elastic period of the structure and its amplitude is of the same order as the yielding seismic coefficient, serious damage may occur if significant ductility cannot be supplied. The effect of post-yielding structural stiffness on ductility demand is also examined. Contrary to presently-used numerical algorithms, the proposed analytical solution allows many key response parameters to be evaluated in closed-form expressions and insight to be gained on the'response of inelastic structures to such motions. The model is evaluated against numerical results from actual near-field recorded motions. Illustrative examples are also presented.  相似文献

The goal of this paper is to develop a modified Bouc-Wen hysteretic model from cyclic loading test data for reinforced columns, including the behavior of stiffness degradation, strength deterioration, pinching and softening effects of RC members. Seismic demands on this inelastic single degree of freedom system when subjected to both near-fault ground motion and far-field ground motion excitations were examined.

The cyclic loading test of reinforced concrete columns was experimentally observed and a system identification computer program was developed to solve each control parameter of the hysteretic model. A least-squared method for identifying parameters of the model is proposed in this paper. The hysteretic constitutive law produces a smoothly varying hysteresis such as the control-parameters for strength deterioration, stiffness degradation, pinching and softening effects. Two implementations of (1) flexure damage and (2) shear damage were conducted to provide better understanding of hysteretic behavior of RC structural members. A pseudo-dynamic experiment was also developed to verify the model parameters.

Based on the developed hysteretic model, the seismic demand of this inelastic model was investigated by using both near-fault ground motion data and far-field ground motion data as input motion. An RT inelastic response spectrum from different hysteretic models was generated.  相似文献

The computation of constant ductility (or isoductile) response spectra for single-degree-of-freedom systems can require numerous individual response history analyses. Recognising that the same ductility response may be obtained for different strength oscillators of a given period, greater computational effort is required to reduce the possibility that a desired solution is not overlooked. Even a single solution may not exist if a local discontinuity in the strength-ductility relationship coincides with the desired value of ductility. This paper describes a two-phase algorithm to identify the highest strength solution for which the corresponding ductility equals (or does not exceed) the desired ductility. The first phase adopts a “check-reject” approach to reject intervals of strength where the possibility of unidentified higher-strength solutions is considered to be remote, thereby narrowing the strength interval in which the solution will be found. The second phase identifies a solution within this interval as rapidly as possible using a bisection approach. The algorithm is implemented in the USEE software program. The efficiency and accuracy of the algorithm are demonstrated by comparison to results obtained with other software programs.  相似文献

The objective of the present work is to examine advantages and drawbacks of different types of isolation systems, when seismic isolation is used as a protection strategy against damage to internal equipment and contents. The starting point of the study is the big experimental program of table tests on reduced-scale R/C structural models, carried out within the MANSIDE (Memory Alloys for New Seismic Isolation DEvices) project. Seven identical l:3.3-scaled, 3-storey frames were tested, including two fixed-base models and four base-isolated models with different isolation systems, namely: (1) rubber isolators, (2) steel-hysteretic system and (3), re-centring SMA (Shape Memory Alloy) system. In this study the internal equipment is regarded as an elastic single degree of freedom, with 2% equivalent viscous damping. Therefore, the capability of fixed-base and base-isolated models with different isolation systems to protect light secondary systems is evaluated by comparing the floor response spectra obtained from the storey accelerations recorded during shaking table tests. Three different PGA's are considered, about 0.15g, 0.3g and 0.5g, respectively. All the shaking table tests are also simulated with an accurate numerical model, to validate and better understand the experimental results. It is found that each type of isolation system reduces considerably the seismic effects on internal equipments in wide frequency regions. However, tuning effects may arise in specific frequency ranges, corresponding to the first mode in structures equipped with quasi-elastic (rubber) isolation systems, and to higher modes in structures equipped with elasto-plastic (steel) and nonlinear re-centering (SMA) isolation systems.  相似文献

Kiralkizi Dam, a 120 m high earthfill dam located in Diyarbakir city, Turkey, was shaken by a moment magnitude, M w =4.6 earthquake at an epicentral distance of 8 km, on December 24, 2000, at 13:31 local time. The seismic response of the dam was assessed by using spectral ratios between (i) available crest and foundation records (C/F), (ii) horizontal and vertical components of the recorded motions (H/V), (iii) by performing 2 dimensional finite difference-based seismic response analyses (Flac-2D), and (iv) ID elastic shear beam solutions. First mode of vibration of the dam in the transverse direction by all four methods were estimated in the range of 0.55 to 0.62 second. Similar close agreement was not observed in higher modal periods estimated by H/V technique as compared to the predictions by C/F, Flac-2D, shear beam analysis techniques. Thus, H/V technique was concluded to be useful for the estimation of the fundamental resonance frequency of a soil structure, but not for its higher harmonics as consistent with available limited literature. In the longitudinal direction, natural period of the dam was estimated as 0.28 and 0. 82 second by H/V and C/F techniques, respectively. Such disagreement was explained by (i) differences in the definitions of the estimated periods, (ii) internal impedance contrast of the dam, (iii) contributions of 3D valley effects. Single seismometer record obtained from crest level was found to be inadequate for reliably assessing the response of a dam in the longitudinal direction, and it is recommended to install multiple seismometers both within dambody and the abutments. Last but not least, the results of these analyses were further compared by available accelograms recorded at three earthfill and rocknll dams from Japan. In general, it was concluded that the seismic response of Kiralkizi Dam is comparable and within the prediction ranges of available analyses methods and is consistent with the expected response of a dam this height.  相似文献

Experimental and numerical simulations are performed to evaluate the modification of ground response resulting from either the presence of soft layers or occurrence of partial liquefaction. Results from two densely instrumented dynamic centrifuge tests are presented to show the ambiguous role played by the presence of a soft layer. It was found that the lateral extent of the soft layer has significant influence on the overall response of the layered strata and any structure founded on it. The experimental observations are supported by simplified numerical analysis. The amplification or deamplification of the input motion is found to be a function of the ratio of the width of soft layer to the wave length. Based on the numerical analysis, a general function describing the site amplification is presented which may be used as a guide in seismic design of foundations in such layered strata.  相似文献
