宋代女性的阅读活动与重文教的社会风气、书籍的普遍流通以及士人的提倡等密切相关。在实际生活中,宋代女性的阅读内容非常广泛,主要包括儒家经典、佛道经典、女教典籍、家训、史书、诗词文、音乐、诸子百家、方技小说、天文历算、医药数术等;其阅读具有多元性、自主选择性及持续性的特点;她们通过阅读学习知识,并以多种方式作用于社会,对于提高国民素质、传承文明有着积极的意义。

Paratexts and pornographic potential in seventeenth-century anatomy books

ABSTRACT

This article discusses paratexts in seventeenth-century anatomy books and their relation to contemporary concerns that these books might be read erotically. Suggesting that discussions of these concerns have hitherto neglected the material object of the book, I argue for the importance of paratexts (illustrations, legends, prefaces, running titles and marginal notes) as sites of negotiation over anatomy books’ pornographic potential. I examine these paratexts both as strategies by which writers and printers carefully and collaboratively attempt to frustrate erotic reading, and as devices that might simultaneously function to facilitate this mode of reading. The centrality of these concerns to the construction of anatomy books indicates, I suggest, a need to augment our characterisation of early modern readers, incorporating wilfully thoughtless and/or excessive reading alongside active and productive reading. My discussion focuses on Helkiah Crooke’s Mikrokosmographia, and is supplemented with analysis of other English anatomy books published throughout the seventeenth century.

当历史领域的"宏大叙事"模式渐渐被片断的、断裂的现象所取代之时,《夏鼐日记》的出版不仅为我们全方位了解这位学术大师的心路历程提供绝佳的机会,而且还能成为研究中国现代学术史乃至现当代历史的有益"增补"。与夏鼐先生同时代并有着相似经历的钱鐘书先生也留下了名著《围城》。本文尝试着对《夏鼐日记》前三卷和小说《围城》这两部不同的"作品"进行"互读",以期进一步理解上世纪三四十年代以及那一代学人的风范。任何"作品"都无可避免地带有一定的"视角",但倘若各种不同的"视角"彼此交织、互为补充,那么,关于"过去"图景的立体"拼图"就会趋于完整。     

‘Ellie is the coolest’: class,masculinity and place in vehicle engineering students’ talk about literature in a Swedish rural town school

This article aims to show how boys in a vehicle engineering programme at an upper secondary school in Sweden use their reading and literature discussion in their identity construction and how the classroom is converted into a place where the boys create the social space that they are a part of. This article is written in the intersections between different disciplines, research fields, and theoretical and methodological perspectives, and it is argued that this approach makes it possible to exceed each respective limitation and present a more nuanced and far-reaching discussion about how children use literature discussions in the construction of identity and place.     

Reading Kafka Visually: Gothic Ornament and the Motion of Writing in Kafka’s Der Process

Through close examination of the chapter ‘Im Dom’ in Kafka’s novel Der Process, this articles explores how a particular visual mode can shape the writing of a text. The mode analysed here inheres in the setting of Kafka’s chapter: the architecture of the Gothic cathedral, which the art historian Wilhelm Worringer, a contemporary of Kafka’s, saw embodied in the figure of ornament. This encounter between literary language and Gothic space as two phenomena mutually engendering each other opens a perspective onto the ‘motion of writing’ within the text, and onto its visuality and resonance with space. A dynamic and complex current; a chaotic tangle of lines; expression prevailing over meaning; an absent centre; vertigo and pathos — these are the principles shared by Worringer’s Gothic and Kafka’s writing.
