A device prototype, based on the superelastic properties of Shape Memory Alloys (SMAs), is proposed to enhance the thermal and seismic behavior of steel tie-rods. First, the thermal behavior of steel tie-rods with and without SMAs is presented based on the results of extensive experimental tests in thermal room. Next, the seismic performances of the proposed SMA system are discussed based on the results of a series of shaking table tests on a 1:4-scale timber roof truss model. In this article, the functioning principles of the proposed SMA-based device prototype are illustrated and the main aspects related to its implementation in practice are discussed in detail. Finally, a recent example of application of the proposed technology to a historic single-aisle church, realized in the 13th century in Brindisi (southern Italy), and equipped with inadequate and deteriorated steel tied rods, is shown.  相似文献

The main activities and the relevant results of an experimental program aimed at evaluating the dynamic characteristics of a large seismically isolated building are described. The building is situated in Potenza (Italy) and is the largest of five seismically isolated blocks of the University of Basilicata. Cyclic shear tests on scaled isolators and some small amplitude free vibration tests were preliminarily carried out. The latter ones were aimed at getting a preliminary linear characterisation of the structure. Finally, many in situ release tests on the isolated structure were carried out, using a mechanical device purposely designed to statically move the building and then suddenly release it, thus making it vibrate freely. The variations of the dynamic characteristics of the system while the oscillation amplitude decreases have been evaluated by using the “Short Time Fourier Transform (STFT)”. The results were elaborated in terms of stiffness and equivalent damping and compared to the results of the laboratory tests on scaled isolators, finding an excellent agreement.  相似文献

In the search for robust constitutive models suitable for reproducing the performance of bridge piers during a seismic event, this paper details the simulation of the cyclic responses of four rectangular hollow section R/C bridge piers. These four R/C bridge piers were built at scale 1/2.5 and tested experimentally. Both tall and short piers are considered, covering situations where bending or shear are of relevance. Furthermore, the four piers were reinforced according to rather different design strategies: (I) the first is a 30-year-old bridge designed without allowance to the seismic action, and (ii) the second is a bridge fulfilling the EC8 provisions. The detailed constitutive model that provides the numerical predictions includes two submodels: one with two scalar damage variables, reproducing the tensile and compressive degradations of concrete, and the other is based on the Giuffre-Menegotto-Pinto formulation, simulating the cyclic behaviour of the re-inforcement. The Damage Mechanics submodel is implemented at the Gauss points of the finite elements that discretize the concrete, whereas the steel submodel is implemented on the 2-noded truss elements adopted for the rebars. A comparison between the numerical and the experimental results is discussed in detail in this paper.  相似文献

The objective of the present work is to examine advantages and drawbacks of different types of isolation systems, when seismic isolation is used as a protection strategy against damage to internal equipment and contents. The starting point of the study is the big experimental program of table tests on reduced-scale R/C structural models, carried out within the MANSIDE (Memory Alloys for New Seismic Isolation DEvices) project. Seven identical l:3.3-scaled, 3-storey frames were tested, including two fixed-base models and four base-isolated models with different isolation systems, namely: (1) rubber isolators, (2) steel-hysteretic system and (3), re-centring SMA (Shape Memory Alloy) system. In this study the internal equipment is regarded as an elastic single degree of freedom, with 2% equivalent viscous damping. Therefore, the capability of fixed-base and base-isolated models with different isolation systems to protect light secondary systems is evaluated by comparing the floor response spectra obtained from the storey accelerations recorded during shaking table tests. Three different PGA's are considered, about 0.15g, 0.3g and 0.5g, respectively. All the shaking table tests are also simulated with an accurate numerical model, to validate and better understand the experimental results. It is found that each type of isolation system reduces considerably the seismic effects on internal equipments in wide frequency regions. However, tuning effects may arise in specific frequency ranges, corresponding to the first mode in structures equipped with quasi-elastic (rubber) isolation systems, and to higher modes in structures equipped with elasto-plastic (steel) and nonlinear re-centering (SMA) isolation systems.  相似文献

An extensive program of shaking table tests on 1/4-scale three-dimensional R/C frames was jointly carried out by the Department of Structure, Soil Mechanics and Engineering Geology (DiSGG) of the University of Basilicata, Italy, and the National Laboratory of Civil Engineering (LNEC), Portugal. It was aimed at evaluating the effectiveness of passive control bracing systems for the seismic retrofit of R/C frames designed for gravity loads only. Two different types of braces were considered, one based on the hysteretic behaviour of steel elements, the other on the superelastic properties of Shape Memory Alloys (SMA). Different protection strategies were pursued, in order to fully exploit the high energy dissipation capacity of steel-based devices, on one hand, and the supple-mental re-centring capacity of SMA-based devices, on the other hand. The experimental results confirmed the great potentials of both strategies and of the associated devices in limiting structural damage. The retrofitted model was subjected to table accelerations as high as three times the acceleration leading the unprotected model to collapse, with no significant damage to structural elements. Moreover, the re-centring capability of the SMA-based bracing system was able to recover the undeformed shape of the frame, when it was in a near-collapse condition. This article attempts to explore the dynamic behavior of traditional Dieh-Dou timber structure under different combinations of structural forms and vertical loads. Using time-history record (TCU 084) from the Chi-Chi earthquake, two semi full-scale specimens (Symmetric and Asymmetric) were tested. Results showed that the Symmetric specimen tends to be damaged more easily and faster than the Asymmetric one. Damage pattern generally begins from the bottom Dou members and subsequently spreading upwards to the upper Dou, horizontal Gong members, and adjoining Shu members. Friction force between the contact surfaces is crucial towards the maintenance of overall structure. Increase vertical loadings have significant effect on the natural frequencies and global stiffness of the structure. Using the Single-Degree-Of-Freedom (SDOF) system, the derived stiffness is generally in good agreement with the dynamic results of both forms. This study suggests that the effects of increasing vertical loadings should be taken into consideration for future evaluation.  相似文献

为保护可移动文物,采取试验方法研究了地震作用下馆藏浮放文物的摇晃响应.以故宫某展柜为原型,制作了1∶1比例的模型,并在展柜内放置了一陶瓷文物,进行了振动台试验.通过白噪声激励,获得了展柜的基频;通过输入不同类型、不同强度的地震波,研究了展柜和文物的地震响应;通过数值模拟,从理论上对模型地震响应进行了进一步论证.结果表明:对展柜而言,其基频在29~35 Hz之间,与地震波卓越频率相差较大,因而在地震作用下摇晃不明显;对文物而言,在地震波强度较小时能保持稳定振动状态,而在地震波强度较大时,文物容易产生明显摇晃并导致倾覆.此外,数值模拟结果与振动台试验结果吻合,证明了试验方法的有效性.在实际工程中,对高宽比较大的文物,应采取适当的加固措施,以减轻其摇晃震害.  相似文献

The article presents the results of an experimental and numerical investigation on Azzone Visconti bridge, a 14th century arch bridge in Lecco (northern Italy). Starting from the historical data and from an extensive mechanical characterization of both the soil constituting the riverbed and of the masonry constituting the piers, the aim of the study is to investigate the bearing capacity of the bridge. A testing loading scheme defined according to the current Italian Code is adopted to check the structural behavior. A simplified finite element structural model was conceived and calibrated as a control tool to safely perform the experimental tests. Post-test nonlinear finite element analyses have allowed the prediction of the bridge bearing capacity and the definition of the bridge class according to the Italian regulations.  相似文献

The preservation of old downtowns has become a necessity of growing interest. New urban policies have been approved in different countries in order to revive the old city centers and make them economically sustainable. In this global trend, the municipality of Manresa (Barcelona) developed an important urban planning operation in the old district that included the demolition of a group of existing buildings and the construction of a new modern one in close proximity to a group of old residential buildings which are cultural heritage of the city. As a consequence, specific areas of risk were generated which lead to the adoption of precautionary measures to ensure safety. This article presents the preliminary analysis, diagnostics and monitoring carried out on this group of heterogeneous old buildings, as well as the results and precautionary measures taken to ensure their safety. The article also provides a translatable methodology that combines qualitative and quantitative aspects.  相似文献
