To Travel in One Place: Openings for a New Asceticism in the Theology of Stanley Hauerwas

Abstract

The article argues that there is an ascetic character implicit in Stanley Hauerwas's thinking and that a more explicit engagement with the Christian ascetical tradition could clarify some lines of thought in it, in particular the relationship between moral formation and witness. The way Hauerwas treats e.g. the virtues and practices that are used to pursue them, the role of spiritual authority and the difference between Church and world show clear similarities to the thought of early Christian ascetics, such as Evagrios of Pontos, Isaac of Nineveh and John Cassian. By showing how Hauerwas by addressing some key theological, ethical and political developments in modern theology opens up the possibility to overcome modern misunderstandings of asceticisms, the author argues for the relevance of asceticism as a political concept in today's world.     

The countryside (Scotland) act of 1967 revisited

The recent opening‐up of the policy and precedent files relating to the promotion of the Countryside (Scotland) Act of 1967 provides opportunity for re‐assessing the significance and character of the debates leading up to the first explicit provision for what the Preamble to the Act described as ‘the better enjoyment of the Scottish countryside’. More generally, insight may be gained into the procedures and preoccupations of the ‘core executive’ of government, as they effect the ‘networking’ required for securing the support of the relevant user‐interests during the consultative and drafting stages of such legislation.     

Red Tory: How Left and Right Have Broken Britain and How We Can Fix It

Abstract

Responding to my generous critics, I attempt to clarify my view of reason’s responsibility and its limits, and I underline my agreement with Strauss on the insuperability of political thinking and thus the impossibility of any neat separation between theory and practice or of any trans-political doctrine of transcendence. Finally, I resist invitations to overcome tensions between vertical and horizontal transcendence and thus to go beyond responsibility to autonomy.     

基于入境游客感知的中国旅游服务质量演进特征和影响机制

入境游客感知的旅游服务质量是影响入境旅游规模、衡量我国国际旅游竞争力的重要因素。本研究利用历史统计资料、问卷调查数据和结构方程模型方法分析了基于入境游客感知的中国旅游服务质量演进特征和影响机制。研究发现:1990-2012年入境游客对中国旅游服务质量的评价呈现"初步改善-大幅提升-提升趋缓"的趋势,旅游服务质量仍滞后于入境游客不断增长的需求,交通业、旅行社业、旅游公共服务等行业服务质量不高是主要制约因素。从内在影响机制看,入境游客对旅游服务质量比国内游客更为敏感,对入境游客满意度影响最大的因素是各行业服务和旅游公共服务,此外,旅游地形象对于入境游客的感知质量也有很大影响,旅游地形象、游客感知质量和游客满意度最终将影响入境游客的忠诚度,但旅游价格并不是影响入境游客满意度和忠诚度的主要因素。     

城市防灾避难空间安全性的评价——以北京市紧急避难场所为例

本文以城市防灾空间的关键要素-紧急避难场所为切入点,通过NDVI指数法从遥感图像中解译出适合作为紧急避难场所的绿地。同时,结合人口统计数据,利用GIS空间分析,对北京市城六区紧急避难场所的服务距离、覆盖率、人均避难面积等关键参数进行了测算。此外,研究在望京地区,通过实地调查以及问卷调查等方式,深入研究了影响居民避难行为的关键因素。结果表明:避难者的性别,年龄,避难的宣传教育,及避难标识系统等对避难者的成功避难起到了关键作用。据此,研究提出提升紧急避难场所服务水平的规划建议。     

美国新现实主义与后现代小说中的道德意识

本文以“道德”这一角度入手,对美国近年来出现的“新现实主义小说”中的道德意识进行深入挖掘,结合新现实主义小说家的具体作品进行分析,并和与之毗邻的后现代派小说进行比较,得出新现实主义小说中蕴藏着一股强大的道德重建意识的结论。有利于我们更好地把握当代美国文学发展趋势,使读者对文学与道德之间的关系进行更深一步的思考。     

西安市主城区客观生活质量空间格局研究

以街道办事处为研究单元(以下简称街道),选取西安市主城区53个街道作为研究区域,利用Erdas imagine空间分类和建模方法、Arcgis区域分析方法、SPSS因子分析和聚类分析法等对2013年西安市主城区客观生活质量进行评价,并探究其空间格局。结果表明:①在生态环境因素主导下,外围客观生活质量高于接近内城的区域,南北区域高于东西区域,并在总体布局中出现"飞地";②在社会经济因素主导下,客观生活质量以内城为中心向四周辐射,形成放射状格局,同时在曲江等街道出现"异值区";③总体客观生活质量以内城及其南部区域较高,高值区呈现集中连片分布,低值区呈现"马鞍形"分布格局。     

An assessment of quality in underwater archaeological surveys using tape measurements

The quality of an underwater archaeological survey using 3D trilateration with fibreglass tape measures was established on an underwater test site. A precision of 25 mm was calculated for tape measurements giving a position accuracy of 43 mm. Of the 304 measurements which were made during the tests, 20% were found to be in error.     

Evaluation of underwater surveying techniques

The paper discusses the application of a number of manual trilateration surveying systems, an acoustic surveying system and a photogrammetric system applied to a rigid test frame. Results and relative merits are compared and discussed.     

Legacy databases and GIS: a discussion of the issues illustrated by a case study of archaeological site data from southeast Alberta,Canada

Many institutions and agencies are currently faced with the issue of geographic information systems‐enabling legacy databases. The problems can be acute for data sets that have been compiled through many years, using different standards and levels of recording. To explore these issues further, we report on a data quality assessment undertaken in 2002 for a subset of the archaeological site database of the province of Alberta, Canada. Our work shows that positional ambiguities in the data set can be highlighted and corrected by relatively straightforward procedures. This case study also provides an indication of the amount of work effort that will be involved in validating or ‘cleaning up’ data sets so model results and analyses undertaken with them are more reliable.
