Modern urban economic theory and policymakers are coming to see the provision of consumer‐leisure amenities as a way to attract population, especially the highly skilled and their employers. However, past studies have arguably only provided indirect evidence of the importance of leisure amenities for urban development. In this paper, we propose and validate the number of tourist trips and the number of crowdsourced picturesque locations as measures of consumer revealed preferences for local lifestyle amenities. Urban population growth in the 1990–2010 period was about 10% points (about one standard deviation) higher in a metro area that was perceived as twice more picturesque. This measure ties with low taxes as the most important predictor of urban population growth. “Beautiful cities” disproportionally attracted highly educated individuals and experienced faster housing price appreciation, especially in supply‐inelastic markets. In contrast to the generally declining trend of the American central city, neighborhoods that were close to central recreational districts have experienced economic growth, although at the cost of minority displacement.  相似文献

本文对国内外"竞争力"辨析的基础上,探讨了城市竞争力的概念。其结论是:城市竞争力是指一定竞争环境中,一个城市在发展过程中所具有的吸引、争夺、拥有、控制和转化资源,以创造价值或财富,提高居民生活水平和城市可持续发展的能力。在城市竞争力概念和城市竞争力影响因素的"环境学派"、"资源学派"和"能力学派"基础上,本文分析了城市竞争力的一般评价方法:区域经济学方法、基准法和SWOT方法。最后总结了城市竞争力评价的一般程序。  相似文献

The objective of the present work is to examine advantages and drawbacks of different types of isolation systems, when seismic isolation is used as a protection strategy against damage to internal equipment and contents. The starting point of the study is the big experimental program of table tests on reduced-scale R/C structural models, carried out within the MANSIDE (Memory Alloys for New Seismic Isolation DEvices) project. Seven identical l:3.3-scaled, 3-storey frames were tested, including two fixed-base models and four base-isolated models with different isolation systems, namely: (1) rubber isolators, (2) steel-hysteretic system and (3), re-centring SMA (Shape Memory Alloy) system. In this study the internal equipment is regarded as an elastic single degree of freedom, with 2% equivalent viscous damping. Therefore, the capability of fixed-base and base-isolated models with different isolation systems to protect light secondary systems is evaluated by comparing the floor response spectra obtained from the storey accelerations recorded during shaking table tests. Three different PGA's are considered, about 0.15g, 0.3g and 0.5g, respectively. All the shaking table tests are also simulated with an accurate numerical model, to validate and better understand the experimental results. It is found that each type of isolation system reduces considerably the seismic effects on internal equipments in wide frequency regions. However, tuning effects may arise in specific frequency ranges, corresponding to the first mode in structures equipped with quasi-elastic (rubber) isolation systems, and to higher modes in structures equipped with elasto-plastic (steel) and nonlinear re-centering (SMA) isolation systems.  相似文献

本文对侨乡华商企业的因应策略特别是员工管理模式进行系统考察,力图从文化调适与管理适应的角度解释海外华商管理的独特模式、成因与演变趋势。内部化服务是外部社会化与市场化缺失的一种替代,集中统一的强化约束与技能培训,则是农民转变为工人的过程中提高管理绩效和降低成本的手段。海外华商适应侨乡市场与投资环境,对侨乡劳动密集型企业中的中方员工通常采取内部化服务与集中管理模式,从生产流程到日常生活都实行全方位渗透与强化,形成了国际产业链中的竞争力,并通过营造大家庭式氛围培育团队精神与企业文化。同时企业的责任与风险也随之增加,随着侨乡市场与投资环境的改善,这种管理模式开始新的调适与变动。  相似文献

This commentary is organized into three parts. The first discusses the papers presented in this volume, notably divided into two themes: those that looked at past struggles and those that look at struggling in the present. The second part deals more critically with the unifying analytical theme of the papers: a dialectical approach to historical archaeology and how it can be implemented through the theory of internal relations. 2005年以来,国际原油价格剧烈震荡,除实体经济层面的供求因素外,能源作为金融商品的虚拟经济属性被放大,预期、投机、突发事件、汇率波动因素等都可能成为引燃油价波动的导火索。新的油价变动特点,使日本更加难以保持经济的内外均衡。从内部看,企业、行业间的收入分配效应分散了油价上涨的通货膨胀效果,具有技术垄断优势、善于利用金融工具避险及有效采取能源分散化和节能措施的企业与行业受油价波动的冲击更小。从外部看,进口成本增加和出口成本转嫁不完全引起了日本贸易条件恶化;石油美元通过贸易渠道和资本渠道的回流,对日本的国际收支产生一定影响;日元升值因素一定程度上缓和了高油价的冲击。日本政府、企业、居民的不懈努力创造了日本经济超低能耗的奇迹,这个奇迹将日本抵御油价波动的能力变成现实。.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

This paper examines nation branding in the context of post-coup Thailand. It challenges the dominant view within the nation-branding literature that nation branding is an externally-oriented, apolitical, business-derived practice aimed at increasing a country’s global competitive advantage. Instead, the paper argues, nation branding is a highly-politicised practice that is primarily aimed at changing the social attitudes and behaviours of the nation’s citizens. To demonstrate the political nature and internal focus of nation branding, this paper examines one of Thailand’s recent branding initiatives – the Thailand 4.0 project – that promotes sustainable economic growth in a digital age. The paper first discusses nation branding from a theoretical perspective drawing on studies in the fields of business, international relations, culture and the media. Secondly, it contextualises Thai nation branding within the political developments of the past decade. Thirdly, it analyses the project’s contents and surrounding discourses, drawing on primary data gathered during the author’s 2016 field research in Thailand. The paper argues that Thailand 4.0 is an exercise in internal nation branding aimed at enhancing the military junta’s power and legitimacy by “selling” a vision of economic prosperity to the Thai people in exchange for their support, trust and loyalty.  相似文献

This paper identifies the extent to which cultural diversity induced by internal migration affects urban innovation in China. We measure cultural diversity by an index of “plurality” of provinces of origin. Using the 2000 and 2005 population census data, we find that innovative activities are higher in cities with a higher degree of cultural diversity. Further heterogeneity analysis shows that cultural diversity, not only of the highly skilled, but also of the low skilled, has a positive effect on innovation. Our study contributes to the scarce evidence on the effect of cultural diversity on innovation in developing countries.  相似文献
