How Was Edmond Halley’s Map of Magnetic Declination (1701) Constructed?

Edmond Halley made two scientific voyages in the Atlantic Ocean as captain of the HMS Paramore between 1698 and 1700. Following these voyages he published the first map showing lines of equal magnetic declination in 1701. Halley did not reveal how he constructed the map, however, and it remains unknown. In this study, a construction procedure is hypothesized that uses mathematical tools that were available in his day, namely arithmetical averages and Isaac Newton’s method of divided difference for fitting a polynomial curve to data. To enable his map construction, a method is suggested whereby Halley could have created new data to augment the situations where insufficient data were collected.     

Financialization of hotel corporations in Spain

One of the cutting-edge topics being currently debated in social sciences is the impact of financialization on corporations and on different geographical contexts. Surprisingly enough, there have been very few studies that have explicitly dealt with this issue within tourism studies. In this paper, the issue of financialization within tourism is addressed through an analysis of hotel corporations. Taking a case-study approach, it is argued that Spanish hotel chains are increasingly becoming financialized since a minimization of the impact of global financial crisis on these corporations is urgently required. The argument is not that hotel corporations’ financialization is necessarily new, but rather that the impact of the global financial crisis has led to an intensification of this very process. Taking as case studies the three largest Spanish hotel corporations (Meliá Hotels International, NH Hoteles and Grupo Barceló), the current crisis-led hotel financialization is dealt through four interrelated spheres: (1) built environment (hotel buildings property becoming controlled by financial funds), (2) actors (emergence of new agents as a result of hotel corporations intertwining with financial corporations), (3) hotel profit extraction (reliance on the secondary circuit of capital), (4) financial engineering instruments (forms of fictitious capital that are new in the context of hotel corporations). The article shows how the process of financialization of hotel corporations illustrates broad trends of both financialization and capital accumulation. Specifically, the main findings are on one hand, that financialization not only fixes capital on the ground, but also creates liquidity. On the other hand, that the selling of property titles is an increasing profit niche with differentiated geographical locations. The last significant finding is that financialization helps to improve profitability of non-financia corporations such as hotel chains.     

Overpressure in the Malay Basin and prediction methods

Predrill overpressure prediction is important for well planning and migration modeling for prospect evaluation. The Eaton (Journal of Petroleum Technology, 24 , 1972, 929) and Bowers (SPE Drilling & Completion, 10 , 1995, 89) methods are used worldwide for postdrill overpressure prediction using sonic log and predrill overpressure prediction using seismic interval velocity. In this research, these two methods were used for overpressure prediction using 3D anisotropic prestack depth‐migrated seismic interval velocity in a field of the Malay Basin. In the shallow overpressured zone, where the mechanism of overpressure is undercompaction, the onset of overpressure was predicted reasonably well using the Eaton and Bowers methods with their standard parameters (i.e., Eaton exponent 3 and Bowers loading curve) for seismic velocity. However, in the deep overpressured zone, where fluid expansion is the cause of overpressure generation, these methods underpredicted the high overpressure. In the deep overpressured zone, the overpressures were better predicted by applying a correction to the Eaton method. On the other hand, the Bowers unloading parameters for the fluid expansion mechanisms did not show any significant effect on overpressure prediction. Hence, in the study area, the Bowers method is not effective for 3D overpressure prediction using seismic velocity, whereas the Eaton method is more robust and can be used for 3D overpressure prediction from seismic velocity.     

旅游产业部门结构合理性的SSM分析-以陕西省为例

为了寻求省域旅游产业发展的合理部门结构,利用偏离-份额分析法,以旅游统计年鉴提供的数据为基础,对陕西省旅游创汇部门的产业结构进行实证分析。研究表明陕西省各旅游创汇产业部门中,原有基础好,竞争力较强、具有部门优势的增长部门包括商品销售、邮电通讯和市政交通等部门;原有基础差但发展快,竞争力较好,具备一定部门优势的增长部门包括住宿、餐饮业等;基础较好,但竞争力较差的部门则包括长途交通运输业、观光游览、娱乐业等。论文针对各部门实际发展状况分别进行了分析,指出各自发展方向和策略。最后评价了偏离-份额分析法在旅游创汇部门产业结构分析中的应用效果,认为该方法具有较强的综合性和动态性,能够有效揭示旅游创汇各部门产业结构变化的原因和发展机制,是确定未来旅游业创汇部门发展主导方向的有效方法之一。     

景德镇御窑遗址出土青花绣墩的考古修复新方法研究

景德镇御窑遗址出土的15世纪中叶青花方胜纹绣墩,体量较大,器形特殊,出土时破损和缺失严重,修复难度较大。本研究通过分析传统考古修复中石膏作为补配材料的局限性,利用3D扫描打印的优势,设计采用新颖的高强度透明树脂取代传统修复补缺材料,并且结合特制的加固装置完成对大型青花绣墩的考古修复,满足了后期研究与展览的需要。本研究提出了具有一定实践意义的3D打印补配大件异形陶瓷器的修复技术路线。     

论国家侵权精神损害赔偿制度的确立——由佘祥林“杀妻”案所引发的思考

当前对《国家赔偿法》的修订已纳入立法规划,结合佘祥林“杀妻”一案,针对目前国家赔偿法中有关国家侵权赔偿的范围仅包括实际的物质损失,而不包括由于侵权造成的精神损害,本文提出应扩大国家侵权赔偿的范围,将国家侵权造成的精神损害纳入赔偿之列,逐步建立起完整的国家侵权赔偿制度,才能真正满足构建法制社会的要求。     

治学不为媚时语惟寻真知启后人 --朱绍侯先生访谈录

朱绍侯先生是我国当代著名的历史学家,半个世纪来笔耕不辍,在中国古代史的诸多领域都取得了突出的学术成就。在对他的访谈中,内容涉及到了其治学经历、主要学术成果、学术风格及他长期形成的史学观和方法论等诸多方面。最后,朱先生还对当前学术研究的环境和风气提出了自己的评判,并对21世纪的中国古代史研究做出了乐观的展望。     

洋务时期整体外交思想研究 --兼论中法交涉中义利结合外交思想

本文立足于洋务运动史、近代外交思想史既有研究,利用近年来出版的有关档案,考察中法越南交涉这一洋务时期具有代表性的重大外交个案,探讨洋务时期整体外交思想,认为义利结合的整体外交思想为洋务时期清朝政府的基本外交指导思想,从而反思中国近代外交思想史研究中若干误区.     

基于员工满意度的饭店软实力比较研究——以宁波本土饭店K和外资饭店H为例

本研究选取宁波本土饭店K和外资饭店H作为研究对象,采用问卷方法构建饭店员工满意度指标,以员工满意度作为衡量饭店软实力的切入点,将本土饭店K与外资饭店H的软实力进行了定量化的比较研究。研究表明,尽管本土饭店K的员工满意度高于外资饭店H,但在员工素质和长期发展等方面仍存在较大差距。本文还对员工学历、工资、职位等与员工满意度的关系进行了讨论。
