故宫太和殿动力特性与常遇地震响应

为更好地保护故宫太和殿,采用有限元分析方法,研究了太和殿的动力特性及常遇地震作用下的响应。采用弹簧单元模拟榫卯节点及斗拱构造,并考虑柱础为铰接,建立了太和殿有限元模型。通过模态分析,获得了太和殿基频及主振型;通过对模型进行时程分析,获得了典型节点的位移、加速度响应曲线,以及典型单元的内力响应曲线,评价了太和殿的抗震性能。结果表明:太和殿基频为0.9Hz,主振型以平动为主;常遇地震作用下,太和殿能保持稳定振动状态,结构的内力和变形均在容许范围内,且斗拱及榫卯节点均能发挥一定的减震作用。

苏秉琦重建中国古史框架的努力和中国文明起源研究--苏秉琦与中国文明起源研究之五

从考古学角度研究中国古史,是苏秉琦晚年学术研究的主要奋斗目标,但明确提出考古学研究要直接面对中国古史,则是在他论述了重建中国史前史之后.1992年9月苏秉琦在<迎接中国考古学的新世纪>一文中全面阐发了构建中国古史框架的重要学术思想,提出了中国国家起源发展经历了"古国--方国--帝国"三个阶段和对中华民族多元一体格局形成与发展的宏观认识,肯定玉器的出现作为"上万年的文明启步",辽西地区由民族向国家发展的转折点的时间在距今七八千年,开始将红山文化"坛、庙、冢"等遗存的文化性质确定为早期城邦式原始国家,即古国,并将陶寺文化的社会定位于方国进而又改定为古国.

人形柱陶楼是极为奇特的汉代建筑明器.本文在以往研究的基础上,从分析造型特征、装饰艺术、使用功能等方面着手,对其定名、年代及墓主身份作了进一步探讨与推测.     

Community unionism and trade union renewal in the UK: moving beyond the fragments at last?

This paper explores the theory and practice of community unionism. It is now widely argued that if trade unions are to reach employees in small workplaces, those on part-time or temporary contracts, and women, black and ethnic minority workers, they need to sustain alliances beyond the walls of the workplace. Increasing the scale of political mobilization in this way can help secure trade union organization amongst new groups of workers while giving unions the power to raise questions of economic and social justice at a wider scale. After summarizing current developments in North America, the paper focuses on the situation in the UK in more detail. By highlighting the pioneering community unionism of the Iron and Steel Trades Confederation (ISTC) and Battersea and Wandsworth Trades Union Council (BWTUC), the paper explores the implications of community unionism for the future of trade unionism in the UK.     

Een‐Gonyama Gonyama!: Zulu Origins of the Boy Scout Movement and the Africanisation of Imperial Britain

British imperialists in the late 19th century denigrated non‐western cultures in rationalising the partition of Africa, but they also had to assimilate African values and traditions to make the imperial system work. The partisans of empire also romanticised non‐western cultures to convince the British public to support the imperial enterprise. In doing so, they introduced significant African and Asian elements into British popular culture, thereby refuting the assumption that the empire had little influence on the historical development of metropolitan Britain. Robert Baden‐Powell conceived of the Boy Scout movement as a cure for the social instability and potential military weakness of Edwardian Britain. Influenced profoundly by his service as a colonial military officer, Africa loomed large in Baden‐Powell's imagination. He was particularly taken with the Zulu. King Cetshwayo's crushing defeat of the British army at Isandhlawana in 1879 fixed their reputation as a ‘martial tribe’ in the imagination of the British public. Baden‐Powell romanticised the Zulus' discipline, and courage, and adapted many of their cultural institutions to scouting. Baden‐Powell's appropriation and reinterpretation of African culture illustrates the influence of subject peoples of the empire on metropolitan British politics and society. Scouting's romanticised trappings of African culture captured the imagination of tens of thousands of Edwardian boys and helped make Baden‐Powell's organisation the premier uniformed youth movement in Britain. Although confident that they were superior to their African subjects, British politicians, educators, and social reformers agreed with Baden‐Powell that ‘tribal’ Africans preserved many of the manly virtues that had been wiped by the industrial age.     

National stereotypes and music

Music became a marker of national identity in nineteenth‐century Europe. Western art music consists of tonal systems that are universally intelligible, but certain rhythms and musical idioms have been associated with national styles. How, when, and why does a musical phrase or piece become national? What political and cultural circumstances contributed to the development of national styles and facilitated the emergence of resonant topographies? What was the relationship between music as cultural practice and nineteenth‐century national thought as discursive space? These questions are addressed with a particular focus on verbunkos, which came to be characteristic of Hungarian national style, and on the Rákóczy March which became famous thanks to Berlioz's Faust. This essay traces the complex process of cultural transfer through which these martial tunes of mixed ethnic origins have become emblematic of Hungarian music.     

Organisational Capacity for Engaging with Indigenous Australians

Community capacity building is a common goal for programmes and policies involving Indigenous peoples, but it relies heavily on organisational capacity to work effectively in intercultural settings. This paper reviews the organisational capacity of the senior leaders of Australian Red Cross and institutional efforts to build a culturally appropriate and respectful organisation. It reports results from a survey of the organisation's leadership team and follow‐up interviews undertaken in 2010, reviews the challenges facing the organisation in working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians, and considers institutional progress in building internal capacity to lead change in working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians. The paper concludes with discussion of wider implications of this research.
