Northern Ireland Representation at Westminster: Constitutional Conundrums and Political Manœuvres

This article focuses on the issue of Northern Ireland's representation at Westminster. It investigates the political context of the decision to increase Northern Ireland's representation in the house of commons at Westminster from 12 members to 17 in 1978–9. Exploring this episode in more detail, it is argued, provides a more informed overall understanding of the history of devolution in the UK and of the way issues concerning Northern Ireland often overlapped with questions of constitutional change in Scotland and Wales. The article also throws light on the matter of Northern Ireland MPs and their voting rights at Westminster during Northern Ireland's experience of devolution prior to 1972.     

建国初期北京市的区街建政与居民自治

建国初期,北京市根据定都及适应城市管理和建设的需要,在建国前区街建政的基础上,各区设区各界人民代表会议和区公所。随着区各界人民代表会议代行区人民代表大会职权,区公所改设人民政府委员会,由选举产生;街设办事处,作为区政府派出机关;居民组织居民委员会,实行自治。由此,北京市区街初步形成区政府、区政街派与社区自治相辅相成的城市基层治理格局,其后虽有所调整和变革,却延续至今并不断完善。     

会议注册登记表设计及其信息收集的有效性——以"上海论坛·2005"为例

会议注册登记表是会议组织者收集信息的重要方式.本研究通过整理112份"上海论坛·2005"国内会议与会者的注册登记表,分析注册登记表的信息收集有效性,总结注册登记表的设计缺陷,提出了改善注册登记表的设计方案及其回收方式等方面的建议,为大型会议组织中的注册登记表设计与回收提供参考.     

全面推进社会主义事业的1954年

1953年7月,朝鲜停战协定签字,出现了建国以来少有的外部和平环境,中国得以集中精力搞国内建设。9月,过渡时期总路线正式向全国公布,到年底,全国范围的学习和宣传过渡时期总路线的活动大张旗鼓地开展起来。这一切,都为1954年全面推进社会主义事业奠定了重要的基础。机缘巧合的是,1954年又召开了日内瓦会议,给了新中国走向国际社会、展示自己风采的一个宝贵历史契机。内政外交的胜利令毛泽东在1954年留下了“萧瑟秋风今又是,换了人间”的千古绝唱和“我们正在前进。我们正在做我们的前人从来没有做过的极其光荣伟大的事业。我们的目的一定要达到。我们的目的一定能够达到”的无比豪迈的壮语。     

The Shipping Conference System,Empire and Local Protest in Singapore, 1910–1911

This article analyses local opposition in Singapore in 1910–11 to the shipping conference system and the responses of a powerful group of British shipowners and the Colonial Office. The conference, a cartel agreed among shipowners, divided monopoly profits among its members and a small group of London-based merchant houses. We suggest that the concerns of Singapore anti-conference protestors, backed by the governor of the Straits Settlements, counted for little in official London circles when weighed against the vital role of shipping in the British Empire. Even in 1967 the strength of the empire and British shipping was still apparent when the Singapore government refused to support local mercantile opposition to the Far Eastern Freight Conference.     

第二届中国近代思想史国际学术研讨会综述

近期召开的“第二届中国近代思想史国际学术研讨会”围绕“中国近代史上的民族主义”这一主题,就民族主义思潮的概念定义、学理渊源、发展脉络、层次类型、思想内涵、个案对象、价值评判、研究方法以及民族主义与其他思潮的关系等问题展开讨论.既是对前十多年这一问题研究的回顾与总结,也将对今后深化与拓展“中国近代史上的民族主义”的研究起到推动作用。     

全球视野下的美国早期史研究国际学术研讨会述评

2007年5月24~27日在天津召开的"全球视野下的美国早期史研究国际学术研讨会"为中外学者提供了一个独特的增进相互交流和了解的机会,将有助于推动中国学者对美国早期史的研究。提交会议的国外学者的论文在研究课题、视角、观点、材料和方法上多有新颖之处,从中可以看出国外美国早期史研究的一些发展趋势。相较而言,中国美国早期史研究尚存在极大局限和不足,提交会议的中国学者的论文大多选题偏大,观点缺乏新意,同时缺少详尽新颖的一手史料。可见,中国的美国早期史研究亟需得到提高。     

新要求 新布局 新举措——党的十七大关于加强党的建设的创新

ABSTRACT

This is a review of the 6th Postgraduate Conflict Archaeology conference held in Glasgow in October of 2019. It summarizes the presentations and keynotes delivered at the two-day conference, and reflects on the benefit of postgraduate and ECR specific conferences, the gender disparity within the field of conflict archaeology, and the importance of a supportive network of colleagues.
