Measurements of background noise at Al Hoceima city and its extension zones allowed us to elaborate a seismic microzonation map. The analysis of this map shows existing relationships between the observed dominant periods and the local geological conditions. In particular, a strong correlation between the dominant periods and the topography is apparent; indeed, we find larger dominant periods in areas with higher topography such as in the Ras El Abed sector to the north of the city and in the area of Cala Bonita, south of the city. Furthermore, the field work conducted in the region revealed that the karstic phenomenon is well developed in the Ras El Abed sector, and affects the dominant periods and a hence the site response.  相似文献

Due to lack of strong motion records, point-source and finite-fault models have been used to simulate far-field motions at Memphis and St. Louis Cities from earthquake events in the New Madrid Seismic Zone. However, near-field rock motions and their associated uncertainties have never been studied within this zone. The objectives of this study are to develop a simple procedure to account for the uncertainty effect of earthquake source parameters, to analyze the sensitivity of near-field rock motions to input source parameters, and finally, to generate rock motions at two sites located within 11 km from the southwestern segment (strike-fault) and a third site bove the Reelfoot Rift (reverse fault) using a well-validated finite-fault simulation program; FINSIM. An equal-weight logic tree was developed to ensure that the assumed uncertainties are within physical, geological, and seismological constraints. For each site, 100 acceleration time histories with various combinations of parameter uncertainties were respectively simulated for an earthquake of M w 7.0, 7.5, and 8.0 from each of the two faults. Their average spectral accelerations were in good agreement with those derived from the attenuation relation-ships representative to the Central and Eastern United States. Numerical simulations indicated that spectral accelerations are sensitive to the slip velocity, depth to top of fault, fault strike, slip distribution, and hypocentre location along the strike.  相似文献

Over the past decade, the use of shape memory alloys (SMAs) in passive control devices has been explored. Nevertheless, some aspects in regards to the cyclic behavior of SMAs and the effect of pre-straining need to be clarified. In this study, small-scale shake table tests have been performed to explore the effectiveness of SMA bracing systems as compared to steel bracing systems. The reduced-scale experimental results imply that SMAs used in braces are more effective in controlling the response of a steel frame compared with a traditional bracing system. A finite element model (FEM) of the frame is developed in order to compare the analytical results with the shake table tests. Further, the effect of pre-straining the SMA braces is evaluated through both experimental and analytical studies. The results show that pre-straining improves the performance of the frame compared to the nonpre-strained case. However, as the level of pre-straining increases above approximately 1.0% to 1.5%, the benefits of pre-straining decrease compared with low-to-moderate pre-strain levels.  相似文献

Three highway bridges spanning the Missouri River flood plain were selected for evaluation of seismic site response for moderate size earthquakes emanating from the New Madrid Seismic Zone (NMSZ) in the Midwestern United States. The NMSZ is known to be capable spawning earthquakes larger than magnitude (M) 7.0, four of which occurred in a three-month period between 1811 and 1812, and the Mw 6.0 earthquake of October 1895 centered near Charleston, Missouri. This study evaluated the likely impacts of long period motion of these historic earthquakes on three long-span highway bridges using geotechnical data obtained from recent investigations. Our results suggest site amplification between 6× and 9×, depending on the magnitude and epicentral distance. We believe that threshold magnitude for serious foundation failure and damage to these bridges is between Mw 6.5 and 6.6. Above these magnitudes widespread liquefaction is predicted, which would effect the peak horizontal acceleration and spectral accelerations, causing the ground motions to be different than predicted. Increase in amplification of the response spectra also should be expected where the periods are higher than 1.0 sec. Therefore, Mw 6.5+ earthquakes at ranges 210–260 km could be expected to engender resonant frequency problems for multiple span bridges and tall buildings (10 to 25 stories) in channel corridors containing 20 to 46 m of unconsolidated sediment.  相似文献

The objective in current design practice for parking structures is that energy is dissipated through the formation of plastic hinges at the base of shear walls while floor diaphragms remain elastic and are vertically supported by a combination of shear walls and gravity resisting columns. Unfortunately, this objective is not always achieved due to inaccuracies in current methods for calculating demands on shear walls and in calculating the capacity of shear walls (IBC 2003 International Building Code. International Conference of Building Officials. Whittier, CA.  [Google Scholar], ACI code). When demands are overestimated and capacity underestimated, then diaphragm can fail prior to flexural yield of shear walls as was observed in several parking structures in the 1994 Northridge earthquake.

Eigenvalue and inelastic dynamic response analyses were performed in order to investigate the effects of diaphragm flexibility on wall responses and of wall overstrength on diaphragm responses. The elongated periods of parking structures due to diaphragm flexibility were found to significantly decrease seismic force demand on shear walls relative to what is calculated using codes of practice in which diaphragms are assumed to be rigid. This leads to the over design of shear walls, which further compounds the problem by preventing the flexural yielding of these walls and thereby driving inelastic response to diaphragms. Various degrees of diaphragm flexibility, shear wall layout, seismic zone, and the number of stories were considered in these analyses.

Inelastic static pushover analyses were preformed to investigate the design and capacity evaluation of shear walls. The results illustrate that the shear capacity of walls may be close to twice that calculated by codes of practice. The largest overstrengths were observed in shear walls with low height-to-length ratios in which a significant portion of the lateral load was taken by direct strut action to the foundation and without placing demands on the longitudinal tension reinforcement in the shear walls. The article concludes that methods in codes of practice for calculating shear wall demands and capacities need to be improved if good seismic performance of parking structures is to be achieved.  相似文献

A new seismic intensity parameter to estimate damage in buried pipelines due to seismic wave propagation is proposed. This parameter depends on the peak ground velocity (PGV) and the peak ground acceleration (PGA). It is shown that PGV2/PGA is related to displacement, a parameter directly related to ground strain, which is the main cause of buried pipeline damage. For the case of Mexico City, this parameter exhibits higher correlation with damage than PGA or PGV alone. Finally, we presented intensity-damage relations for the Mexico City's primary water system using PGV2/PGA as the measure of seismic intensity.  相似文献

This article investigates the seismic performance of one-story reinforced concrete structures for industrial buildings. To this aim, the seismic response of two structural prototypes, a cast-in-situ monolithic frame and a precast hinged frame, is compared for four different levels of translatory stiffness and seismic capacity. For these structures an incremental nonlinear dynamic analysis is performed within a Monte Carlo probabilistic simulation. The results obtained from the probabilistic analysis prove that precast structures have the same seismic capacity of the corresponding cast-in-situ structures and confirm the overall goodness of the design criteria proposed by Eurocode 8, even if a noteworthy dependency of the actual structural behavior from the prescribed response spectrum is pointed out.

The experimental verification of these theoretical results is searched for by means of pseudodynamic tests on full-scale structures. The results of these tests confirm the overall equivalence of the seismic behavior of precast and cast-in-situ structures. Moreover, two additional prototypes have been designed to investigate the seismic behavior of precast structures with roof elements placed side by side. The results of these further tests show that an effective horizontal diaphragm action can be activated even if the roof elements are not connected among them, and confirm the expected good seismic performance of these precast systems. Finally, the results of the experimental tests are compared with those obtained from nonlinear structural analyses. The good agreement between numerical and experimental results confirms the accuracy of the theoretical model and, with it, the results of the probabilistic investigation.  相似文献

A simple stick model is presented for the inelastic seismic analysis in 3D of two-way eccentric multistory RC buildings. It has 3 DoFs per floor, point hinges at the ends of the vertical elements connecting floors, elastic story stiffness derived from the corresponding story force-interstory deformation relations of the elastic 3D structure under inverted-triangular floor loading (by torques for torsional stiffness, by horizontal forces for the lateral ones), story yield forces derived from the total resistant shear of the story vertical elements, but no coupling between lateral and torsional inelasticity. It is evaluated on the basis of comparisons of response histories of floor displacements to those from full nonlinear models in 3D of four actual buildings. Alternative locations of the story vertical element with respect to the floor mass center are examined: (a) the floor “center of twist” of the elastic 3D building under inverted-triangular floor torques; (b) the story “effective center of rigidity,” through which application of inverted triangular lateral forces does not induce twisting of floors; (c) the centroid of the secant stiffness of the story vertical members at yielding and (d) the centroid of the lateral force resistance of story vertical elements. Among alternatives (a)–(d), the floor “center of twist” provides the best agreement with floor displacement response-histories from full 3D nonlinear models. This means that the static eccentricity that matters for torsional response may be taken as that of the floor “center of twist.” The center of resistance comes up as the second-best choice.  相似文献

Viscous dampers have widely proved their effectiveness in mitigating the effects of the seismic action upon building structures. In view of the large impact that use of such dissipative devices is already having and would most likely have soon in earthquake engineering applications, this article presents a practical procedure for the seismic design of building structures equipped with viscous dampers, which aims at providing practical tools for an easy identification of the mechanical characteristics of the manufactured viscous dampers which allow to achieve target levels of performances. Selected numerical applications are developed with reference to simple, but yet relevant, cases.  相似文献

Shaking table tests were conducted on a 1/20 scaled-model of a 25-story steel-concrete composite high-rise building, composed of steel frame (SF) and concrete tube (CT). The seismic behavior of the model was investigated with the increasing of table-input acceleration amplitudes. It has been found that the seismic failure of the model concentrated on the shear walls and corner columns at the lowest story of the CT as well as the joints between the SF and the CT. Even subjected to extremely strong earthquakes, due to effective composite action, the composite model was able to support its weight to prevent collapse.  相似文献
