本文就南京总统府是否明汉王府遗址提出质疑,并沿着诸多的史料记载,根据明清志书所绘的官衙、府第和街道等处的方位图示,以理清南京总统府所在之沿革变迁。     

从历法的角度看逨鼎诸器及晋侯稣钟的时代

从历法的角度探讨"四十二年"和"四十三年"逨鼎的历法关系,可以得出"既生霸"是初九的认识。该器符合厉王时期的历法。西周铭文中的王号生称、死称相同,具体铭文应分别对待。共和行政十四年应归属于厉王纪年范围之内,即37 14=51年。逨鼎诸器和晋侯稣钟同属于厉王时期的器物。西周金文中的月相词语是定点的,各指月中固定而又明确的一日。     

江苏扬州双山汉墓墓主身份探讨

双山汉墓即甘泉一号墓、二号墓,是扬州地区发现的两座东汉时期高等级墓葬。关于其墓主身份,学界有不同看法:一号墓墓主,或认为是广陵王刘荆家族中的某个成员,或认为是刘荆的王后;二号墓墓主,或认为是刘荆,或认为是东汉晚期的某一代广陵王。通过对两墓形制、器物的比对,可以确认这是两座东汉早期广陵王侯之墓;再结合文献记载和墓葬形制的细微区别来推测,一号墓、二号墓墓主分别应该是广陵侯刘元寿、广陵王刘荆与王后。     

Roy L. Heller,Discourse Linguistics,and the Tower of Babel (Genesis 11,1-9)

Roy L. Heller’s Narrative Structure and Discourse Constellations has proven to be a useful tool in the hands of the discourse linguist. His work in discourse linguistics has advanced the state of scholarship previously developed Robert E. Longacre and Alviero Niccacci. With specific interest in Heller’s work, this paper explores his argument for the form and function of discourse linguistics and its application to biblical Hebrew (BH). To accomplish this task, this paper, first, will provide a summarizing presentation of Heller’s working model of discourse linguistics as seen in Narrative Structure and Discourse Constellations. Second, I will take Heller’s working model and apply it to the tower of Babel narrative (Gen 11,1-9). Third, stemming from the application of Heller’s model, I will enter into a discussion with his discourse linguistic theory to critique its value for those interested in discourse linguistics.     

The growth of secure inheritance in Anglo-Norman England

The following paper traces the crystallization of inheritance custom in England from 1086 to 1154. Inheritance of baronial estates has long been considered by historians to have been tenuous in the reigns of William the Conqueror and his sons, but by dating instances of forfeiture, escheat and other forms of disinheritance, and by comparing these dates with those of political turmoil, it can be shown that the custom became fairly secure and regular in the latter half of the reign of Henry I, only to be disrupted in the civil wars of Stephen's reign.     

Sovereignty,mercy, and natural law: King James VI/I and Jean Bodin

ABSTRACT

The affinities between Jean Bodin's and King James VI/I's political theories have been recognized, and the fact that James had owned Bodin's Six livres de la république has been recorded, but Bodin's specific influence on James has remained nebulous. This article examines the evidence for James's direct engagement with Bodin, by studying James's copy of the Six livres alongside James's political treatises. It provides substantial new archival evidence for Bodin's influence on James's political thought and, thereby, on Scottish and English theories of sovereignty.     

Radical (Evangelical) Democracy: The Dreams and Nightmares of Martin Luther King,Jr. and Antonio Negri

Abstract

This essay critically examines the theories of radical democracy offered by Martin Luther King, Jr.'s vision of the beloved community and Antonio Negri's vision of the multitude. The radical democratic visions of King and Negri continue to critically inform progressive reflections on democratic theory and propel new dreams of democracy. Despite their similarities, the differences between Negri and King are substantial. I argue that Negri's dream of the multitude and King's dream of beloved community have been shaped by different conceptions of radical democracy. While Negri works out of a tradition of Italian Marxism, King works within a critical tradition of prophetic evangelicalism. Thus, the political task, according to King, is to translate Jesus' teaching of the Kingdom of God into a beloved community on earth. King's creative negotiation of transcendence and history provides the requisite theological and political resources to develop a truly transcendent and immanent vision of a radical democratic society that is attentive to the demands and dignity of "all God's children."     

SIGNIFICANT GROUND MOTION PARAMETERS FOR EVALUATION OF THE SEISMIC PERFORMANCE OF SLENDER MASONRY TOWERS

The evaluation of seismic risk of masonry monuments requires to study the combination of vulnerability and hazard. In the present work, the global seismic response of slender masonry towers has been studied by means of a specific 3-D fibre model. Accounting for the particular behaviour of such structures, the hazard should also be described by a suitable measure of intensity of the seismic action. A variety of different parameters relating with the ground acceleration recordings have been investigated for what regards their correlation with the damage indicators of the model. The combination of the peak ground velocity of the horizontal component and of the significant duration is an effective measure of intensity. This measure can be improved by considering the accord of the frequency content of the ground motion with the dynamical characteristics of the tower. Since in some cases the effect of the vertical component proved to be important, a further improvement can be obtained by taking into account also the vertical ground motion intensity.
