The popularity of physical geography at all levels of formal education is declining. This paper argues that a key factor in the decline may be the disparity between geographies studied within formal education and the popular geographies encountered during leisure pursuit. Through the example of the Jurassic Coast Project, an initiative for the interpretation of Dorset's coastal landscape, approaches towards the integration of popular and academic geographies are explored. Drawing explicit links between popular experiences and academic knowledge may benefit physical geography, improving its status amongst public and student audiences, and addressing the concerns that surround its decline within higher education. 相似文献

This paper focuses on experiences with international learning and teaching in a European (ERASMUS) programme on geography and gender during the period 1990-1998. This programme forms an example of collaborative work in which the author and colleagues experimented with an array of models to bring geography students and teachers of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds together. International learning and teaching is a confrontation with diversity. Diversity in language, in the mastery of English and the resulting hierarchies, in learning and teaching cultures and in defining geography form both challenges and opportunities to profit. In this paper the author will expound on the different strategies to deal with linguistic and cultural differences and to break down hierarchies. Furthermore the opportunities to "use" the differences as learning and teaching contexts will be discussed. Geography is a discipline concerning diversity. Direct contact between persons with different cultural backgrounds can form an efficient, effective and stimulating method to learn about differences in geographies and in teaching methods. 相似文献

This study contributes to growing research on the links between school and university geography by reflecting on the value of a teachers' conference organised in 2000. Through analysis of feedback from the conference and reflection on how the event has influenced the author's teaching, the paper considers the potential for academic geographers to learn from colleagues in the school sector and vice versa. The paper also uses personal experience and the teachers' feedback to provide guidance for people considering holding similar events, particularly with regard to the likely expectations and priorities of secondary school teachers. The paper notes schoolteachers' desire for a closer relationship with university staff and argues that current pressures on all teachers limit possibilities for broader and more sustained dialogue. 相似文献

经过婚姻自主观念熏陶之后,不甘于接受包办婚姻的民国时期学生开始有了自由恋爱的冲动与欲求。但是,民国时期的客观与主观环境,尚不利于学生的恋爱。学校秉承社会和家长的意志,极力避免异性学生间的接触。男女学生间过于敏感的防线,也阻挡着他们的自由来往。社交环境的欠缺,对学生间的自由恋爱造成了致命的障碍。即使有部分学生冲出羁绊,他们的恋爱在社会阻力面前也未必能有结果。自由恋爱的现实困境,必然导致相当一部分学生对自己婚姻的不满,这在某种程度上催发了学生婚姻问题的产生。 相似文献

With the consideration of higher modes, an attempt is made to develop a spectral-acceleration-based linear combination-type earthquake intensity measure (IM) for high-rise buildings. The modal mass participation factors are determined to take weighting coefficients. A parametric analysis on the correlation between IM and the maximum interstory drift that utilizes the bend-shear coupled continuum model yields a bilinear relationship between the optimal number of modes involved and structural fundamental period. The proposed IM and several other combination-type IMs are shown to be efficient and sufficient, while the scaling robustness of the proposed IM is more stable compared with that of fundamental-mode-based IMs. 相似文献

This study pioneers the quantitative research of second generation Iranian graduates in Germany. Second generation immigrants in Germany, immigrants raised in Germany with at least one parent born abroad, are relevant as they are a crucial part of German society. Second generation immigrants in general as well as Iranians in particular are assumed to have high extrinsic aspirations. But a dataset big enough to study the employment situation of second generation Iranian graduates in Germany did not exist. Therefore, the article uses the KOAB dataset from 2011 to 2015, which contains data from 53,429 full-time employed higher education graduates in Germany (among those are 161 second generation Iranians). Their extrinsic job aspirations and career success (income, job satisfaction) are analyzed. Multivariate analyses reveal the higher extrinsic job aspirations of second generation Iranian graduates compared to many other migrant groups and Germans but similar to second generation Turkish graduates. Nevertheless, the extrinsic job aspiration is relevant, though only one factor among others to predict career success. 相似文献

在校大学生是旅游客源的一个重要细分市场,具有很大的开发潜力。在校大学生的知识结构、价值取向、心理特征使大学生旅游市场有别于传统的大众旅游市场。本文运用文献综述、问卷调查的方法,以云南部分在校大学生为研究对象,分析他们旅游消费状况、选择出游方式、出游时段、目的地等方面的行为特征,总结出大学生出游在旅游动机、文化水平、闲暇时间、消费结构四个方面的优势;同时从政府及相关职能部门、旅游企业、社会环境、旅游者角度分析了开拓大学生旅游市场的限制性因素,提出开发大学生旅游市场的建议。 相似文献
